About The Role
Our team specialising in medical indemnity insurance is expanding, and we have openings for a Senior Associate and Special Counsel. The roles involve providing General Insurance clients with legal advice on medical indemnity, health law litigation, and related inquiries.
You can expect to be involved in:
- Managing medical negligence litigation as part of a team including attending formal mediations and informal settlement conferences
- Managing Coronial inquiries and disciplinary proceedings as against health entities and individual practitioners
- Providing advice to insurers on cover, predominantly professional indemnity and medical indemnity insurance
- Reviewing medical and health records
- Preparing briefs for Counsel and expert witnesses
- Drafting court documents, settlement deeds and Medical Panel referrals
- Preparing advice including on indemnity, liability, prospects, quantum, reserves and strategy
- Researching and providing legal analysis
- Assisting with preparation and presenting on matters related to medical indemnity and health law litigation.
- Coaching and mentoring junior lawyers, graduates and seasonal clerks
- Retaining and building business
- Suitable candidates will bring 6+ years PAE in medical or health law litigation.
- Tertiary qualification in Law and a current Practising Certificate for relevant jurisdiction
- The role requires strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as effective stakeholder management abilities.
- Suitable candidates should demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain professional relationships, leading to effective client service and successful outcomes.
- Strong critical reasoning and investigative skills with the ability to think laterally.
- Highly organised, able to plan and prioritise work to meet key deliverables.
- Demonstrate proficiency in conducting presentations and meetings with groups of varying sizes.
- Identifies risks and complies with group risk management protocol.
- A willingness and ability to learn and develop new skills.
- The ability to resolve problems and determine when escalation is necessary.
- A professional, client focused and ethical approach.
- A resilient nature with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
