Alvarez & Marsal's CFO Services works with private equity, their portfolio companies, and corporate clients to provide solutions that preserve and generate value for their businesses and investments. The goal is to improve Finance function performance, increase cash and profitability, and enhance transparency through hands-on involvement in clients’ operations. These improvements are achieved as part of a transaction (pre/post deal) and/or during the normal lifecycle of a business.

Key Focus areas

  • Finance function design and implementation - develop fit-for-purpose Finance function operating models that align with a business's maturity and strategic goals. This includes designing Finance functions for new businesses and redesigning existing Finance functions, covering organisational structure, roles and responsibilities, technology/data and process/control
  • Pre-deal Finance function support (buy side) - assist buyers and investors in evaluating a target’s Finance function. Identifying red flags, post deal improvement opportunities, target separation readiness and the buyer’s integration preparedness, ultimately to accelerate value post deal
  • Pre-deal Finance function support (sell side) - identifying opportunities to improve sale value, develop separation planning to outline steps required to carve out the Finance function e.g. transitional services arrangements (TSA’s) to accelerate post investment separation and optimise sale value / readiness
  • Post-deal Finance function support (buy-side) - creation and execution of 100 day plan(s) to integrate a Finance function into the buyer entity or support in the establishment of the Finance function as part of a standalone entity. Including evaluating integration / standalone options, planning and coordination of buy-side TSAs and overseeing the broader Finance function separation / integration across people, processes, technology and data
  • Post-deal Finance function support (sell-side) - support in the management of sell-side TSA’s and broader carve-out / separation processes including migration of Finance systems, data process and performance monitoring to accelerate transition in an efficient and effective manner
  • Liquidity & working capital optimisation - analysis of working capital drivers and KPIs across inventory, payables and receivables to establish baseline, quantifying improvement opportunities including est. timeframe, ease of implementation; prioritising initiatives & development of plans. Design and handover of 13-week cashflow forecast to enhance cash performance and forecasting to enable liquidity improvement
  • Finance system selection - develop go-to-market strategies to support clients in identifying Finance technologies and system integrator (SI) partners to support the Finance function, including establishing differentiating requirements, vendor shortlisting, RFx material development and management of go-to-market procedures including supplier negotiations
  • Finance transformation - supporting CFO’s and Transformation Directors in leading enterprise-wide cost-out and transformation projects to drive organisational change and improve operational efficiency. Involves developing cost-out strategies, managing change, tracking performance, mitigating risks and stakeholder engagement
  • Interim management - stepping into interim Finance management roles providing leadership and stability, can be during transitions, crises or as owners require. This includes overseeing financial operations, managing crises, ensuring clear communication with stakeholders, supporting strategic decisions with financial insights, mentoring the Finance team, implementing process improvements, and planning smooth transitions to permanent leadership


Key Responsibilities

  • Client relationship management - build and maintain strong relationships with private equity and corporate clients, ensuring requirements are addressed and successful project outcomes. Guide and facilitate client interviews and broader engagement with senior management / board members, fostering trust and collaboration
  • Team leadership and risk management - proactively manage client expectations, identify risks and obstacles, and develop contingency plans. Lead projects independently with actionable plans to ensure successful delivery, motivating the team, ensuring alignment with A&M values and fostering a culture of excellence and accountability
  • Problem solving and driving insights i.e., ‘nose for value’ - assess critical issues, identify paths forward, challenge analyses for completeness and accuracy, and guide team members in driving meaningful insights to improve client outcomes, ensuring that solutions are both innovative and practical
  • Value creation and performance improvement - identify business improvement opportunities (e.g., working capital / cashflow improvements), develop associated actionable plans to realise ensuring initiatives deliver measurable value and sustainable performance enhancements
  • Business development - developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients, identifying new business opportunities, and expanding A&M’s presence within existing accounts. Building relationships with external network, professional networking and building network within A&M


Qualifications And Experience Required

  • Over 8+ years of experience working across both industry e.g., a Finance function and consulting (corporate and private equity). A&M provides high level capability to clients therefore senior resources are expected to be former industry practitioners as well as being equipped with a core consulting skillset
  • Strong consulting skillset covering problem solving, financial analysis, developing and delivering solutions and implementing solutions to deliver value to clients. Project management of consulting engagements from managing client relationship to managing the A&M team to deliver high quality outcomes to the client
  • Deep understanding of Finance functions, Finance transformation, operating models and the latest technology changes impacting Finance
  • Finance related qualification e.g. CA, CPA, CMA
  • Willingness to travel as required to meet client needs
