The New Acland Coal Mine (NAC), a thin seam open cut mining operation is owned and managed by New Hope Group. Based in Acland, a short drive north-west of Toowoomba NAC has played a key role in the Darling Downs region as an employer and economic contributor since it began operation in October 2002.

As our mine continues to grow, we are excited to offer the next great opportunity for an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join our team providing expert safety guidance to employees and contractors to ensure compliance and to promote a proactive safety culture at site.

What You Will Be Doing

As the Health & Safety Advisor, you will work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with coal legislation and site safety procedures. Working independently, you will support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of safety systems, procedures and initiatives on site.

You Will Achieve Success By

  • Providing advice on relevant coal legislation, regulations and procedures.
  • Assisting in the development of safety procedures and risk management plans.
  • Supporting site investigations, and corrective action follow up.
  • Facilitating safety inspections and audits to monitor performance.
  • Monitoring and reporting on safety performance, including lead and lag indicators.
  • Liaising with regulators, internal and external stakeholders.

What You Will Need To Succeed

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably in the coal mining or heavy industry.
  • Diploma or Certificate IV in WHS (or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of Queensland mining safety legislation and risk management principles (desirable).
  • Experience conducting audits, inspections and investigations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Sharepoint and incident reporting systems.
  • Experience with audits and incident investigation training (e.g. ICAM)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
