The role
Conduct or lead others in undertaking high-quality risk identification and assessment, as well as supervisory responses, in respect of a defined group of banking institutions, to achieve the government's and APRA's objective of providing a prudentially sound financial system.
The team
The General Insurance and Banking Division supports APRA's core function by undertaking prudential supervision and risk assessment activities to achieve the government and APRA's objective of providing a prudentially sound financial system. This role is in a team which supervises a portfolio of locally-incorporated banks.
Key responsibilities
- Collaborate with at level peers to lead supervision of a portfolio of banks;
- Undertake complex high-quality risk identification and assessment, or support other team members to do so, leading to risk-based prioritisation and resourcing decisions;
- Identify risks and critical institutional developments that are likely to lead to prudential issues and raise these as concerns before they manifest;
- Lead engagements with supervised institutions to ensure that actions to protect depositors are delivered;
- Influence and negotiate with different stakeholder groups to achieve portfolio outcomes; and
- Support development and oversight of more junior team members in undertaking supervision activities.
About you
- Maintain an up to date and relevant knowledge of risk and market issues, both financial and non-financial, that may impact on supervised organisations and influence the depth of analysis of supervised organisations;
- Willingness to experiment with different approaches to enhance the effectiveness of the team;
- Knowledge of relevant prudential standards;
- Up to date with financial market trends and legislative environment;
- Excellent prioritisation skills and the ability to effectively undertake multiple tasks;
- Strong financial analysis, investigative and research skills;
- Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; and
- Demonstrated critical thinking and judgement skills.
