East Waste


The Eastern Waste Management Authority (East Waste) is a regional subsidiary of the Adelaide Hills Council, City of Burnside, Campbelltown City Council, City of Norwood, Payneham & St Peters, City of Mitcham, City of Prospect, Town of Walkerville and the City of Unley (Constituent Councils). Administered by a representative Board led by an independent Chair, the Authority provides effective waste collection services for its Constituent Councils and, from time to time, to other Councils. East Waste aims to be a leading exponent in contemporary waste collection and disposal, recycling and waste minimisation initiatives.


Reporting directly to the Board, the General Manager is responsible for ensuring that sound business and human resource management practices are applied in the efficient and effective management of the operations of the Authority, in accordance with its Charter. Key responsibilities will include:


  • overseeing the financial management of the Authority including budgeting and financial analysis and reporting;
  • engaging with the CEO's and Mayors of the Constituent Councils concerning their strategic priorities for waste management;
  • maximising the return on the assets of the Authority by increasing efficiency and implementing new business activities;
  • innovatively managing and leading the human resources of the Authority to achieve best practice;
  • building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders including local government authorities and other current or potential customers;
  • ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and statutory obligations;
  • consolidating and implementing the Authority’s recently refreshed strategic plan.


Applications are sought from experienced professionals with a background incorporating business development, project management and financial management.Commercial acumen and strategic thinking combined with strong leadership, relationship building and negotiation skills will be expected along with a collaborative mindset, high level communication abilities and an absolute commitment to the delivery of exemplary customer service. Experience in waste and/or logistics management will be highly regarded and experience within or interfacing with local government will be a distinct advantage.
