As a key member of the Growth Team, the Business Development Manager will identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities across both defence and commercial sectors. This role requires a dynamic and strategic thinker who can navigate complex sales cycles, build relationships with key stakeholders, and collaborate cross-functionally to drive revenue growth.
- Identify and Generate New Opportunities: proactively seek out and identify new growth areas, curating market opportunities through research, networking and prospecting. Develop and implement effective sales strategies to meet and exceed sales targets, and in alignment with strategic goals.
- Problem Solving: Identifying the customer and the problems Consunet needs to solve by analysing key trends and challenges in their sector, and by building trusted relationships. You'll shape how an emerging products are understood and valued by the market—translating complexity into clear benefits, and helping customers see not just what it does, but what it means for them.
- Client Acquisition: develop and implement strategies to attract and secure new clients, including attending industry events and delivering compelling presentations, cold-calling prospects and visiting customers to give presentations or demonstrations.
- Client Onboarding: ensure a seamless transition and comprehensive onboarding process for new clients, fostering strong initial relationships.
- Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients to ensure long-term partnerships and customer satisfaction. Work with our Growth Team and Customer Engagement Manager and other key stakeholders to ensure effective relationships with clients, addressing their needs, resolving issues, and maintaining strong, ongoing relationships.
- Client Retention: develop and execute strategies to retain clients, maximise their value, and balance advocating for their needs with company goals.
- Cross-Selling: identify and present additional services and products and solutions to existing clients to enhance their experience and drive business growth.
- Collaboration: work closely with marketing, innovation, delivery and support, and other teams to ensure alignment on business goals and client needs.
- Reporting: maintain accurate records and generate detailed reports on activities, outcomes, and performance metrics.
- Travel and Networking: travel as needed to meet clients, attend industry events, and expand the company’s network.
- Business Acumen: demonstrate strong business acumen and understanding of the industry to effectively represent the company and identify growth opportunities.
- Proactive and consultative sales professional who understands the value of tailoring solutions to real client problems. You'll thrive in a fast-paced environment where your ability to translate complex technologies into compelling business propositions is essential.
- Proven track record in business development or commercial sales, preferably within defence, telecommunications, or government sectors.
- Continuous enhancement of your expertise by staying informed on industry trends and evolving best practices.
- Strong customer network across both Australian and international markets, providing opportunities to drive new revenue growth and gain valuable market insights.
- Ability to understand complex technology solutions and communicate the benefits and outcomes to prospective customers.
- Diligent and dependable person with excellent communication skills and a can-do attitude.
- A customer-oriented mindset with strong analytical skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to engagement with stakeholders and provide support in response to customer requests, input to tenders / quotes and on larger bids.
- Self-motivated, pro-active, and enthusiastic with excellent organisation skills.
- Comfortable working autonomously and as part of a team, and enjoy interacting with people, capable of engaging effectively and empathetically with all staff and visitors.
