Your New Role

This position is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and recommending the selection of external investment managers for FIC portfolios including credit strategies. The role is also responsible for leading the day-to-day management of the external managers within the FIC portfolio group to achieve the team's broader objectives.

Key responsibilities include:

Investment Recommendations

  • Making external manager recommendations, including long and short lists, preliminary analysis, pre-investment due diligence, appointment, monitoring, relationship management, oversight and termination;
  • Maintaining a database of external manager strategies, performance, pricing, key personnel, contact points and assessing incumbent managers vs alternatives.

External Managers Oversight

  • Partnering with internal operational due-diligence, operations, portfolio compliance and legal teams through the manager on-boarding process and ongoing oversight and control;
  • Contributing to the communication of external manager activities within FIC and the wider investment group;
  • Collaborating with other external manager counterparts within the Investments department and relevant external managers on market themes, insights and ideas.

Portfolio Construction

  • Supporting management of exposures across the FIC Options and Sectors, including assisting with portfolio construction, risk modelling and performance measurement;
  • Contributing to the ongoing development of the FIC portfolio construction process including alpha, risk and cost budgeting.

Portfolio Management

  • Supporting Implementation of FIC portfolio design and strategy recommendations;
  • Contributing to the daily management of fixed income investment portfolios, ensuring alignment with investment objectives and risk parameters;
  • Monitoring and managing portfolio risks, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal guidelines.

What You'll Need

  • Extensive experience working within investments, funds management and/or superannuation in a manager selection capacity or FIC portfolio management role;
  • Superior understanding of driver of returns of various FIC strategies and instruments and how they can be blended to build portfolios;
  • Experience in portfolio construction of Fixed Income investments including consideration for factors, styles, investment models, risk and allocations;
  • Experience in FIC portfolio management across physical and derivatives;
  • Experience in managing stakeholders, preparation and delivery of reports, presentations and research findings;
  • Proven self-starter who demonstrates initiative and confidence;
  • Ideally, experience using Aladdin for portfolio management and reporting on portfolio risk and exposures;
  • Tertiary level qualification(s) in Commerce, Economics, Finance, Mathematic, Engineering, Science or related disciplines;
  • Post-graduate qualification(s) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) advantageous;
  • Strong organisation skills with an ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Willingness to learn and contribute to team initiatives and activities, including contributing to team discussions on investment issues.
