Your New Role:

Reporting to the Senior Manager Technology Infrastructure, the Cloud Engineering Manager is a technology leadership role, focusing on leading the core Cloud Engineering team and providing support and guidance to Cloud Engineers supporting the broader technology team. The role is accountable for ensuring that strong governance is in place for the Fund's Azure cloud platform, driving workload protection through policies, and ensuring the cloud environment is well maintained and continuously improved with high levels of automation in place. The role supports the delivery of new cloud solutions and will actively champion pattern-based engineering in a DevSecOps environment, where all services are managed as IaC. The role will drive the evolution towards a cloud-native environment, ensuring the adoption of cloud-native practices and technologies to enhance scalability, resilience, and efficiency.

This role is required to provide people and technology leadership, as well as ensuring alignment to the Fund's processes, standards, and best practices. The role will act as authority of knowledge, governance, and standards to be applied across the cloud practice.

Key duties include but are not limited to:

  • Lead and manage the core team of engineers, supporting delivery and management of cloud services across all areas of the Fund globally.
  • Provide support and guidance through federated cloud engineering services across the broader technology team.
  • Drive the development of engineering/ technical standards, engineering patterns and ways-of-working.
  • Lead the team to identify and develop innovative solutions to improve technology across the Fund.
  • Drive continuous improvement in the Fund's automation capability and lead the evolution towards a cloud-native environment. Ensure the adoption of cloud-native practices and technologies to enhance scalability, resilience, and efficiency.
  • Promote redundancy and knowledge sharing within the team to ensure there are no single points of dependency. Encourage cross-training and documentation to maintain continuity and resilience in operations.
  • Guide and coach the engineering team in setting standard approaches that project engineering teams will adopt in their infrastructure delivery work.
  • Champion best-practice management of cloud services, adopting the Fund's DevSecOps standards, ways-of-working and code-first approach.
  • Ensure that the architecture, design, and relevant implementation of technology solutions exhibit high levels of performance, security, scalability, maintainability, appropriate reusability, and reliability.
  • Manage team resourcing levels, adapting to project requirements and support requirements, including global demand.
  • Motivate and inspire the team and partners by demonstrating commitment to the Fund's values, decision pillars and leadership principles.
  • Represent theCoud Engineering Team as the service SME to all contemporary stakeholders goups.
  • Lead the team to operate and make decisions according to the Fund's Policies, Standards and Procedures and the Fund's Key Decision Registers and the delegated authorities.

What You'll Need:

  • 5+ years' experience in technology management roles, with a proven track-record of success in leadership positions.
  • 5+ years' experience in leading, managing, engaging and motivating teams of technology professionals.
  • 10+ years' experience working in medium to large IT environments.
  • Highly developed leadership and people management capabilities, including developing high-performing, sustainable teams and culture, driving performance and behavioural outcomes through others, demonstrating empathy and creating followership.
  • Experience in technical positions, including cloud engineering with Azure Public Cloud services, designing and building cloud solutions in an IaC environment.
  • Excellent and demonstrable technical knowledge and understanding of Azure cloud services.
  • Deep understanding of security best practices and standards around cloud computing and access management.
  • Advanced experience in engaging with senior stakeholders and influencing commercial decisions.
  • Experience in a fast-growing technology function or company.
  • Critical thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding and working knowledge of ITIL and other relevant ITSM frameworks.
  • Proactive mindset towards continuously improving configuration management processes, policies, and automation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and external vendors, while having an articulate and persuasive character.
  • Ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders while still able to document procedures, create runbooks, and provide guidance to the team.
  • Willingness to believe in and work towards the enterprise purpose and vision.
  • Ability to develop and maintain high quality interpersonal relationships with stakeholders at all levels, both within and outside the Fund.
  • Ability and willingness to adapt in a fluid, fast-changing and maturing technology environment.
  • Poise and ability to act calmly and competently in high-pressure, high-stress situations.
