CQ Energy was acquired by the Energy One Group in April 2022, this role will be joining the Adelaide office. CQ Energy is a leading energy advisor and trader across the electricity and gas markets in Australia.

Who we are looking for


The Compliance Officer will need to be organised, have the ability to think clearly and analytically and be self-motivated, with a hunger to grow their responsibility and experience. Previous exposure to the energy markets will be highly regarded, but not essential, as will specific experience regarding the National Electricity Rules, National Electricity Law, National Gas Rules and/or National Gas Law.

The successful candidate will have the flexibility to provide coverage of weekends and public holidays.


Advanced excel skills will be strongly desired, as will excellent interpersonal and communication skills.


What will you be doing


The Compliance Officer will support the day-to-day compliance monitoring of CQ Energy in all of its operations including; bidding and dispatch services for electricity assets, gas management services for clients, pipeline management, and other energy market activities.


The role will be responsible for the supporting the auditing and continuous improvement of internal compliance and regulatory framework, monitoring, and reporting systems, including coverage of weekends and some public holidays. The compliance of electricity, gas and pipeline operations are of critical importance to the business and our client.


Your Responsibilities


  • Work with the Manager Compliance and Regulation, and the Energy trading team to ensure its bids, trades, and nominations, across electricity and gas markets are in keeping with agreed client strategies and within required market regulations.
  • Where the potential for non-compliance has been identified, put in place recommendations to prevent the future occurrence of any non-compliance.
  • Continually review and audit the compliance framework, systems, processes, controls, and reports to ensure all activities are managed in compliance with the National Electricity Rules, National Electricity Law, National gas Rules, National Gas Law, approved client strategies, approved protocols and in accordance with good industry practice.
  • The role will be responsible for supporting continuous improvement in the internal systems, processes, and procedures for the effective and efficient management of compliance.
  • Working with SQL databases and MS Excel to update and enhance the compliance systems and processes.
  • The role will keep abreast of all market reviews across electricity and gas and provide a regular update to staff of rule changes, market operational changes and as necessary to work with the Energy analysts in determining the likely impact on our clients.
  • The role will also support regulatory reports for our clients
  • Assists in the business process review, risk assessments, developing deliverables and reporting progress against outcomes.
  • The ability to work in a team environment , while being able to work autonomously and as point of contact for the Compliance function

Your Skills


  • Tertiary qualifications are highly regarded, specifically in one or more of the following disciplines: Accounting/Auditing, Economics, Law, Business and/or Engineering.
