About The Role

The Load Forecasting and Market Modelling team sits within AGL’s Integrated Portfolio Planning unit and plays a vital role in supporting Trading & Portfolio Management. This team builds and maintains models, systems, and processes that forecast energy demand and help manage AGL’s energy portfolios. They're also responsible for extracting insights from complex modelling tools used for trading, risk, and portfolio valuation.

As a Load Forecasting Analyst, you'll focus on developing and refining short- to medium-term electricity and gas demand forecasts. Your work will be key in supporting trading decisions, managing hedge positions, and enabling operational tasks like gas nominations and power station dispatch. You’ll also support the broader Market Modelling team where needed.

This is a high-impact role where quality analytics and strong collaboration with the trading team are essential to improving profitability and managing risk. While you’ll be working with solid systems and tools, your input will help improve them even further.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver accurate and timely demand forecasts to support trading decisions and maximize gross margin
  • Analyze customer demand using both quantitative and qualitative methods to support hedge management
  • Produce real-time forecasts that support energy dispatch and gas nominations
  • Collaborate with the Pricing Manager and other teams to ensure alignment
  • Represent the team in forecasting discussions with internal and external stakeholders
  • Continuously improve forecasting models and tools to support commercial decisions
  • Maintain and enhance AGL’s in-house forecasting systems
  • Identify strategic insights and market trends to inform decision-making
  • Ensure alignment with AGL’s risk policies and frameworks


About You

You’re a commercially minded analyst with experience building models that drive value in energy, financial, or commodity trading environments. You enjoy end-to-end ownership of your work and thrive in a collaborative, improvement-focused culture.

  • A degree in Commerce, Maths, Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, R, SQL)
  • Experience in energy, trading, or a similar analytical domain
  • Excellent communication skills—you can explain complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong modelling, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • The ability to juggle priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strategic thinking with a balance of risk and commercial insight
