What You’ll Be Doing

The primary purpose of the Data Engineer role is to be a core contributor to range of activities related to data engineering, including designing, implementing, and optimizing data pipelines that enable seamless data ingestion, processing, and storage. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, data analysts, and other engineers, to ensure the availability and reliability of high-quality data for analytical, operational and product driven purposes. You will also be involved in supporting the delivery of a data engineering technology roadmap.

Key Duties And Deliverables

  • Collaborate with members of OneDigital to deliver on data product requirements and assets for use cases and strategic projects
  • Design, develop, and maintain efficient and scalable data pipelines to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from diverse sources into our data warehouse
  • Gather and translate requirements into technical requirements and documentation while promoting a data-driven culture.
  • Assist evaluation and solution design of data pipelines to ensure we are meeting broader team and business objectives.
  • Review ELT pipeline designs to ensure that they are optimised for data quality, performance, cost, scalability and reliability
  • Contribute to the design and maintenance of data models, schemas, and data dictionaries for efficient data storage and retrieval.
  • Manage and support certain database administration and infrastructure activities
  • Play a key role in contributing and supporting devops, automation, and CICD for the data team.
  • Play a role in code repository and data platform migrations.
  • Monitoring and supporting system and data health for the overall data platform
  • Work closely with platform engineers to ensure reliability in our data pipelines and trouble shoot or resolve data platform cloud infrastructure issues.
  • Manage and support CICD deployment process of our ELT pipelines
  • Work closely with Privacy, governance & risk and other data engineers to ensure data governance, privacy and quality is built by design into our pipelines and data warehouse.
  • Staying abreast of industry practices and technology changes.

What You Will Need

  • Tertiary qualifications in IT or equivalent. Relevant technology certifications
  • 2 –4 years’ experience working in data operations, data engineering or database management.
  • Strong experience in SQL and relational databases (Snowflake is preferred)
  • Strong experience in python programming language
  • Strong experience in data orchestration tooling and methods (Airflow is preferred)
  • Experience in physical data modelling and analytics engineering (DBT core is preferred)
  • Strong technical understanding of data concepts and data management principals
  • Track record in designing and delivering database & data pipeline solutions
  • Good understanding of CICD principals and tooling
  • Ability to engage and influence a variety of stakeholders (incl. External partners)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Experience in big data analytics and cloud technology preferred (e.g. AWS)
  • Familiar with cloud infrastructure and DevOps is advantageous
  • Familiar with analytics is advantageous
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and skills development

  • Confident communicator
  • Excellent time and priority management, and detailed oriented.
  • Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and evolving user requirements
  • Ability to work as part of both a project and operational team
