THE ROLE
Reporting to the Head of Design this role is responsible for supporting the business in achieving its objectives with respect to developing and delivering uniform wear to clients and their staff. Along with general duties, the Product Development Assistant will work across all aspects of product development, with responsibilities supporting product from large client programs, contract made to order, and direct to market stock ranges.

The Product Development Assistant is the key driver of the Product Development team, working exceptionally well with the broader business and can express and demonstrate a passion for product and delivering.

The Product Development Assistant will; be organised and driven - a self-starter and who is able to work collaboratively with the Production, Design and Planning teams and the broader Cargo Crew business; manage technical functions and supply chain partners; have a passion for attention to detail, manage the sample process and delivery, ensuring that products meet Cargo Crew’s high-quality standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include, but are not exclusive to:
Product Development – Range Delivery
Work collaboratively with the Head of Design, Head of Production and Ethical Sourcing, garment technician, design consultant and the Founder & Creative Director (where appropriate) to support new development program, production of range and custom product:

  • Liaising with offshore suppliers daily on sampling matters.
  • Implementation, management, tracking and following up all outstanding samples with suppliers and maintain and report of development critical path timeline/tracker up to date.
  • Preparation, Shipping to and receiving from suppliers, and approvals with the team - lab dips, fabric swatches, handloom, strike off etc.
  • Supporting product team with the fabric sourcing, reviewing with the team fabric testing report and send comments to suppliers if needed.
  • Ensuring collaboration with the Head of Design, Design consultant and Garment technician to maintain the Development critical path timeline.
  • Research and create any support material for design projects.
  • Sketch, create and maintain product tech packs for all new product ranges.
  • Strong Cad drawing and visual communication skills in Adobe suite, and Microsoft.
  • Attend fitting and to support the Design Team and Garment tech and the product development process and outcomes.
  • Requesting quotations for developed products and help negotiating and managing Minimum Order Quantities (MOQ’s) for fabrics and styles with suppliers.
  • Responsible for maintaining existing product labelling and packaging standards and requirements. Consider matters such as cost, national, and international standards requirements (including shipping & customs), etc.
  • Assist in preparing final SMS sample ranges for photoshoot’s and assist on shoot days on location where required.
  • Create and maintain fabric library, filing and development samples rack up to date and organised.
  • Maintain a well organised filing system for all developments including trims.
  • Conduct internal wash test with the Garment tech and support Garment tech to measure and control fit of garment if needed.
  • Arranging DHL and direct freight shipments.

Supplier Relationships

  • Drive strong supplier relationships with overseas and local manufacturers.
  • Manage supplier relationships in accordance with Cargo Crew contractual commitments.

R&D

  • Through industry research and supplier channels, investigate new fabric innovations that supports Cargo Crews focus on delivering innovative, performance led and sustainable fabrics.
  • In collaboration with the Creative Director, assist and drive new fabric development that will enhance fit, functionality & performance of Cargo Crew’s uniform range (core and custom)

  • You can demonstrate minimum 2 years of design, product/developer or production experience.
  • An eye and passion for quality, style and design.
  • A desire to work in an innovative and growing organisation and team, and to play a part in shaping the delivery and production of products in a quickly expanding business.
  • Strong organisational, time management, ability to Multitask and problem solving skills.
  • Understanding of, or exposure to, uniform fashion industry or the like.
  • Strong skills in digital tools and applications. High level function knowledge of Adobe suite and Microsoft suite critical.
