Our client is seeking a highly experienced and proactive Senior Family Law Legal Assistant to join their growing legal team. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years' experience working in family law and will play a key role in supporting their solicitors to deliver exceptional service to clients navigating complex family law matters. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced legal environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-level administrative and legal support to family law solicitors
  • Liaise with clients, courts, barristers, experts and other stakeholders in a professional and empathetic manner
  • Manage family law files from initial instruction to finalisation, including file opening, maintenance, and archiving
  • Coordinate appointments, court dates, and manage diaries for solicitors
  • Assist with discovery, briefing counsel, and preparation of briefs to court
  • Handle confidential information with discretion and sensitivity
  • Monitor deadlines and ensure compliance with court and procedural timelines
  • Bill clients and assist with trust accounting processes, where required
  • Contribute to process improvement and office efficiency

Key Selection Criteria

  • Minimum 5 years' experience as a legal assistant, with a strong focus on family law
  • Sound knowledge of Family Law forms and procedures
  • Strong working knowledge of LEAP or similar legal practice management software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • High level of attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Empathetic and professional manner when dealing with sensitive client matters
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines

Desirable

  • Previous experience supporting Accredited Specialists in Family Law
  • Experience with electronic court filing systems (e.g., Comcourts, eLodgment)
