As a Senior Social Worker, you will help children and families navigate the challenges that can arise from their health and disability condition.
You will apply knowledge drawn from experience in a clinical setting to understand the emotional, social, and psychological needs of our young patients and their families. You will work with families in situations involving the diagnosis of a health condition, disability, child-protection, trauma and bereavement.

Resources can be provided to support transition from an adult health care environment.
Emergency Department
Our Emergency Department (ED) Social Work team deliver services seven days a week including during peak referral periods (late afternoon and evening)..
This is a fast-paced role responding to diverse and varied circumstances and to families in crisis. You will balance autonomy, along with collaboration working closely with medical, mental health and nursing colleagues to respond to complex situations involving trauma, acute medical events, situational crisis and unexpected presentations.
There are additional annual leave entitlements and penalty loadings for shift work in the ED.
Inpatients and Outpatients
As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will support children and families to minimise the impact of illness, disability and hospitalisation and provide specialist clinical expertise in addressing the psychosocial aspects of their health care.
You have the opportunity to work therapeutically with families at the time of diagnosis or at different times during their child’s treatment to achieve improved health and well-being.
About Our Department
Based at Perth Children’s Hospital, our dedicated team of Social Workers, Aboriginal Health Liaison Officers, and Welfare Officers provides a wide range of services to children and young people from birth to 16 years of age. These include specialist counselling, crisis support, advocacy, education, service coordination, and referrals to community-based resources.
Health issues can significantly affect the emotional and social well-being of children and their families. As part of a holistic care approach, we work closely with medical, nursing, and allied health professionals to assess needs and offer compassionate support, helping families navigate the practical, personal, and emotional challenges of illness, disability, and hospitalisation.
We believe every child deserves the best possible start in life. Our support often extends beyond hospital walls, including outreach to rural and regional families following discharge.
