We are going through an exciting period of growth and with that we have a great opportunity for a Principal Engineer (Lines Assets) to join us!


This role will see you demonstrate significant technical leadership in the Asset Management team, championing work programs and initiatives, guiding and leading others in the team to achieve outcomes. Utilising extensive technical knowledge and experience to develop other team members, you will deliver sound technical support to ensure the optimisation of assets while maintaining network performance and the long-term viability of the networks.

With a hybrid split (Office/WFH)), this role is based in Southbank, Melbourne and is part of our Asset Management team within our Transmission line of business.


This role will deliver real outcomes, including but not limited to:

  • Lead the development of Asset Management Lines Asset strategies and work plans (CAPEX & OPEX) aligned with budgets and corporate planning horizons
  • Technical leadership in the management of Lines Asset risks and compliance
  • Provide leadership and work with others to perform condition and risk assessment of Transmission Lines Assets
  • Prepare Regulatory submissions for Transmission Lines Assets classes
  • Development of scope of works and initiate projects to maintain network safety and reliability
  • Technical guidance and advice on Lines Assets equipment
  • Policy direction including business case development for strategic initiatives
  • Lead the development and maintenance of Lines asset specifications
  • Evaluate options and make recommendations for complex Asset Management problems
  • Represent AusNet with external regulators as required for Lines Assets
  • Lead, coach and mentor other engineering personnel within the team sharing knowledge and experience to achieve team objectives and succession planning


You don’t need to tick every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:

  • Deep understanding of Asset Management leading practices, frameworks and relevant standards
  • Deep understanding of relevant Australian and International standards and industry codes of practice for Lines Assets and regulatory frameworks
  • Ability to lead and coordinate failure and incident investigations for Lines Assets
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing strategic asset management plans, preferably in a regulated environment
  • In-depth knowledge of equipment, and technologies, with a focus on Lines Assets and emerging trends and innovations
  • Knowledge of relevant condition monitoring and assessment techniques for Lines Asset
  • Knowledge of Transmission Line design standards and principles and construction experience
  • Degree qualified in Engineering
  • Professional body membership: National Engineering Registration
