We are looking for a motivated and skilled Technical Writer to join our high-performing team in delivering clear, accurate, and high-quality technical documentation that supports mission-critical defence systems.
Based in Mawson Lakes, SA and reporting to the Technical Publications Team Lead, you will develop a range of technical documentation (print and online) and support/mentor the Technical Writing team members.
In this pivotal role, you will Manage and support development of documentation in Framemaker and S1000D toolsets.

Key responsibilities:
As a key member of our technical documentation team, you will:
- Develop operator, maintenance, and software user manuals with minimal supervision.
- Lead documentation initiatives including peer reviews and quality assurance of technical publications.
- Collaborate with engineers, developers, and other stakeholders to gather source information and deliver customer-aligned content.
- Provide mentorship and training to junior writers, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing.
- Contribute to tender submissions and estimate writing efforts as needed.
- Ensure documentation aligns with defence standards and integrates seamlessly with ILS and LSA outputs.
Experience & Skills:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Technical Writing role in defence, manufacturing, engineering, or technology sectors.
- Experience with S1000D publication development.
- Experience with developing and editing large and/or complex documents to an advanced level in Microsoft Word and/or Adobe FrameMaker.
- Proficiency with PDF editing, graphics tools, and configuration management processes.
- Experience methodologies for the development of documentation for hardware and software products.
- Experience with implementing military documentation practices and standards.
- Familiarity with web-based publishing and online help content creation.
- Self-aware, accountable, and committed to personal and team development.
- Ability to undertake tasks with minimal supervision whilst maintaining communication with own Supervisor.
- Ability to manage self in terms of time and process, exercises initiative, completes tasks in a competent and timely manner and demonstrates professional ethics.
- Ability to adapt to new tasks, technologies, processes and procedures.
