We are seeking an experienced Project Governance & Documentation Consultant to join our consulting team for a short-term assignment with a Federal Government client. This role is ideal for a hands-on professional who can work independently, engage with diverse stakeholders, and deliver fit-for-purpose, high-quality project governance artefacts and frameworks.
About the Role
This consulting engagement will focus on uplifting the client's legacy project management documentation, improving project classification thresholds (e.g., Major vs Minor), and designing a future-fit project governance framework. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying delivery inconsistencies, reducing project risk, and ensuring compliance with APS procurement and governance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead stakeholder engagement across business and technical teams to assess current-state project management practices
- Review and uplift the existing suite of project management documentation and delivery processes
- Define classification criteria for Major vs Minor projects, including risk, issue, and escalation thresholds
- Design and deliver tailored, practical project templates and process guides
- Present findings and recommendations to executive leadership, including a forward-looking project governance framework
- Ensure alignment with APS procurement rules and public sector delivery compliance
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Proven experience (7+ years) in project governance, PMO, or project management advisory roles
- Track record in uplifting project documentation suites and implementing scalable governance models
- Strong stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills across varied project teams and executive forums
- Deep understanding of both agile, waterfall, and hybrid delivery approaches
- Ability to produce clear, outcome-focused deliverables tailored for government environments
- Experience working with or for government agencies (local, state, or federal)
Essential Requirements
- Australian Citizenship (mandatory)
- Ability to commence within short notice
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
- Comfortable working in a hybrid environment (Canberra or Sydney preferred)
Desirable
- Baseline Security Clearance (preferred)
- Familiarity with APS procurement rules and project governance requirements
- Previous consulting or advisory experience in public sector settings
