Key Responsibilities
As a Principal Policy Officer, your key duties will include:
Project Management
- Lead systemic review projects, ensuring project deliverables are achieved on time and meet strategic objectives.
- Prepare and manage project documentation, ensuring quality and consistency.
- Conduct research and in-depth analysis on complex policy and legislative issues affecting victims of crime.
- Develop evidence-based policy options and recommendations for government and associated agencies.
- Prepare high-quality reports, discussion papers, briefing notes, and correspondence on a wide range of policy issues.
- Provide clear and concise analysis, ensuring documents are accessible to a range of audiences.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders, including the Communications and Engagement team, to develop accessible resources.
- Contribute to fostering a positive, collaborative work culture and provide guidance to less experienced officers.
- Perform other duties as directed that contribute to the functions and objectives of the role.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Project Management: Proven experience managing projects, including the preparation of project documentation and timely delivery of outputs.
- Policy and Legislative Knowledge: Experience or transferable skills in working within a policy environment, particularly related to victim's rights.
- Research and Analytical Skills: Strong ability to research, analyse, and interpret complex information, identifying key issues and developing actionable recommendations.
- Consultation: High-level consultation skills with the ability to engage stakeholders on complex and sensitive matters.
- Written Communication: Strong writing skills to prepare reports, briefs, and publications for diverse audiences.
- Collaboration and Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a team, building cooperative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Commitment to the principles of trauma-informed care, and a demonstrated capacity for culturally sensitive and ethical decision-making.
