The Role

This role involves overseeing the Supporting Children After Separation Program (SCASP) in collaboration with the Manager, Mental Health Services, ensuring it’s efficient operation and compliance with funding agreements and BPA policies. Key responsibilities include providing therapeutic interventions for children from separating families through consultations during Family Dispute Resolution, individual counselling, group facilitation, and skill-based training, as well as working with children in schools.

A Typical Day As a Program Coordinator

As a Program Coordinator, you lead and mentor a team of practitioners while providing short-term and long-term counselling to a reduced caseload of clients. You participate in operational and clinical supervision, oversee the implementation of outcome measurements for the program, and coordinate staff activities, including meetings, development, and training. Managing human resource tasks, conducting yearly performance reviews, and implementing professional development plans are also key tasks. Additionally, you prepare timely and accurate program reports and foster working relationships with key stakeholders. You promote a culture of professionalism, innovation, and collaboration, support staff in building referral networks, and ensure a culture of health, safety, and effective risk management.

What you will require

To be considered for this role, prospective candidates must possess a tertiary qualification and registration as a Psychologist, Counsellor, or Social Worker, with membership in the relevant governing body. You should have experience leading and supervising a multi-disciplinary team, skills in screening and assessing family violence, and knowledge of the effects of conflict, separation, and divorce on families. Additionally, you need experience with brief therapy, conflict resolution, short-term counselling, facilitating groups, and working with other agencies. Membership with professional bodies like the ACA, AASW, or AHPRA is required. Leadership training and ongoing professional development are desirable.

Other essential criteria include excellent communication and interpersonal skills; the ability to engage and build rapport with clients; well-developed organisation and time management skills and a proven ability to deliver child inclusive practice in a culturally sensitive manner.

This role is a Full Time (1.0 FTE) fixed-term contract from commencement until 30 June 2026 with the possibility to extend for another 12 months. The role is based at our Frankston site however, other locations may be required. Evening work (until 8 pm) will be required on one evening during the week, currently on a Wednesday.
