The Role

We are seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to join a large-scale ICT cyber uplift program within a federal government department. This is a contract role based in Canberra, with long-term potential for extension.

As a Cloud Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, deploying, and managing secure and scalable Azure-based environments. You'll collaborate with architecture, cyber, and project delivery teams to implement hybrid cloud infrastructure and ensure alignment with the Information Security Manual (ISM) and Essential Eight controls. You'll also play a key role in supporting secure cloud migrations and hybrid connectivity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and implement secure Azure cloud solutions using Infrastructure as Code and containerisation.
  • Configure hybrid connectivity between on-premises environments and Azure cloud (VPN/SASE).
  • Support the planning and execution of cloud migration and transformation initiatives.
  • Monitor and maintain cloud infrastructure, resolving performance or security issues.
  • Document new cloud systems and keep technical documentation up to date.
  • Contribute to identifying and adopting emerging technologies that improve efficiency or reduce cost.
  • Ensure cloud environments comply with ISM and Essential Eight security standards.

What You Bring

  • 3+ years' experience designing, deploying, and managing solutions in Microsoft Azure.
  • Demonstrated experience with remote connectivity tools and technologies (VPN, SASE).
  • Experience in delivering secure cloud migration or transformation projects.
  • Strong understanding of ISM controls and cyber compliance in cloud and hybrid environments.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and the ability to communicate complex technical ideas in plain language.
  • Expertise in security architecture, industry compliance frameworks, and hands-on experience with new and emerging technologies.
