Position Details

Location: Canberra (WFH flexible - 2 days from home)
Type: Non-ongoing (up to 12 months) with potential for permanency
Salary: $84,228 - $91,809 + 15.4% superannuation
Clearance: Australian Citizenship and Police Check required

We're on the lookout for a highly motivated Payroll Officer to support critical people operations within a leading federal government institution. You'll play a key role in delivering responsive and compliant payroll services, contributing to the strength of a workplace culture grounded in excellence, inclusion, and collaboration.

What You'll Do

  • Deliver end-to-end payroll processing using Aurion (or similar HRIS)

  • Provide timely, accurate responses to employee payroll and entitlement queries

  • Interpret APS legislation and workplace agreements with confidence

  • Support audits, reporting and system improvement initiatives

  • Collaborate across HR functions to streamline processes and ensure data accuracy

What You Bring

  • 2-3+ years of APS payroll experience - you know the ins and outs of federal government payroll processes

  • Hands-on experience with Aurion or a similar HRIS

  • Ability to interpret and apply APS legislation and employment instruments

  • Strong judgement, initiative, and customer-first communication style

  • Proven experience juggling deadlines and handling sensitive information with discretion

Eligibility

Applicants must be Australian citizens and able to obtain and maintain a security clearance. A National Police Check will be required.
