The Salvation Army is one of Australia’s largest providers of alcohol and other drug services. We offer a range of services including Harm Reduction and Primary Health Services as well as a range of treatment types (including residential treatment centres, community-based support programs, counselling, and withdrawal management services).

William Booth House (WBH) is located on Gadigal lands in Surry Hills. It offers a withdrawal unit and residential rehabilitation. The services operate in a four-storey building with roof top courtyard, which is wheelchair accessible and easily accessible by all forms of public transport.

About The Role

We're looking casual AOD Support Workers who are driven by values and a genuine desire to make a difference. In this rewarding role, you'll play a key part in supporting participants through their journey of alcohol and other drug withdrawal and residential rehabilitation, offering care, encouragement, and practical support every step of the way.

Reporting to the Team Leader, these casual positions, are based at William Booth House in Surry Hills. Salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the SCHADS award Level 3.

Willingness to work across a 24/7 roster including stand-up night shifts is required.

You will successfully

  • Provide effective support to participants, ensuring a safe and structured environment is maintained in accordance with TSA guidelines, within a participant-lead recovery-based service.
  • Facilitate daily program of activities which model and foster participation & skills in; daily living, community tasks & positive routines, health & well-being, effective communication & boundaries, educational, recreation & leisure and managing difficult emotions.
  • Support participant self-determination, sense of safety and stability, through applied recovery oriented, person centred, strengths based and trauma informed practice skills.
  • Ensure a safe and substance free environment, ensuring risks are identified and managed including de-escalation of challenging situations.
  • Establish effective relationships with clients that encourage self-determination and participation.

You will have

  • A minimum of Certificate IV level qualification in a relevant discipline (AOD, Community Services, Case Management) including core AOD Units (or willing to undertake/complete during employment)
  • Knowledge of and experience in working within AOD and/or mental health setting.
  • Strong problem-solving, conflict resolution, and behaviour management skills.
  • Sound understanding of risk management and working with complex needs.
  • High-level interpersonal skills with self-awareness of attitudes and biases.
  • Effective planning, organisation, and evaluation abilities.
  • Ability to engage respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • A current and valid First Aid Certificate.
  • A current NSW Drivers Licence (preferred)
