ROLE PURPOSE
The Data Engineer is a skilled and forward-thinking role to lead the development, implementation, and optimisation of robust data solutions that power our commercial strategies and analytics capabilities.
This role will be instrumental in designing modern data architecture, managing scalable data pipelines, and ensuring data integrity across platforms to drive smarter business decisions.
Sitting within our Pricing function, the successful candidate will collaborate cross-functionally with Data Scientists, Developers, BI teams, IT, and commercial stakeholders to ensure timely, high-quality data delivery aligned with strategic goals.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Design, build, and maintain scalable and secure data pipelines and ETL processes for ingesting and transforming large datasets.
- Develop, test, and deploy robust data architectures supporting advanced analytics, data models, and real-time insights.
- Partner with internal Data Science, Analytics, Development, and BI teams, to translate business needs into data solutions.
- Monitor and optimise pipeline performance, ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and availability across environments.
- Serve as a technical SME for data management across commercial initiatives, driving innovations that enhance business performance.
- Maintain documentation of data workflows, data dictionaries, and architectural decisions to support knowledge sharing and scalability.
- Act as liaison between internal, cross-functional, and external vendors to bridge business requirements and technical execution.
- Implement data governance standards, security controls, and quality frameworks across all data sources.
- Stay current with emerging data engineering trends, tools, and cloud technologies, and integrate best practices into the roadmap.
- Complete all Health, Safety, and Environmental training (HSE) and demonstrate an ongoing commitment to the Winc HSE plan, policy, and processes.
WHAT WE LOOK FOR
- 5+ years’ experience in data engineering, data architecture, or BI engineering roles.
- Expert-level proficiency with SQL and working knowledge of relational and columnar databases.
- Solid experience building data pipelines using Python, Spark, or PySpark.
- Proven experience with ETL tools and orchestration platforms (e.g., Airflow, SSIS).
- Hands-on experience with cloud-based data platforms, particularly Azure and Databricks.
- Proficiency in data visualisation tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
- Strong understanding of data modelling, warehousing (e.g., Snowflake, SAP HANA), and data lake architectures.
- Familiar with Agile/Scrum methodologies and cross-functional collaboration.
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- A problem-solving mindset with the ability to deliver in a fast-paced, data-rich environment.
- Ownership mentality and strong attention to detail with an eye for performance and scalability.
- Passion for data quality, reliability, and helping others make better data-driven decisions.
- Continuous learner, always exploring new data technologies, architectures, and approaches.
Preferred / Nice to Have:
- Experience with Atlassian products (e.g., Jira, Confluence).
- Familiarity with machine learning infrastructure or integration with ML pipelines.
- Certifications in Azure Data Engineering, Databricks, or equivalent cloud platforms.
