Your Opportunity

Mission Australia's Café One is a social enterprise program which provides people with a history of rough sleeping, chronic homelessness, and social exclusion the opportunity to participate in vocational training and employment.

Operating since 2016, Café One is more than just a job; it is a step on the journey towards independence, giving participants a sense of pride, achievement, and the skills to become financially independent.

The primary responsibility of the Café One Coordinator is to develop, prepare, support, and assess the trainees undertaking the Certificate 1 in Hospitality and the barista course, in accordance with contractual and compliance requirements. The program aims to assist the vulnerable in the community to gain skills to become financially independent.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide management of all Café One operations
  • Coordination of volunteers and community engagement activities
  • Ensure quality food and service compliance with QLD Health laws, regulations, and Food Safety Standards
  • Responsible for ordering supplies of food and coffee
  • Provide ongoing support to Trainees and assist them in obtaining employment or further training after their traineeship

Requirements for Success

  • Relevant degree (desirable) and/or formal qualification at trade level
  • Knowledge of food preparation, hygiene practices, and workplace health and safety
  • Ability to lead, supervise, and mentor Trainees
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills
  • Ability to work with limited supervision, prioritising work and managing time effectively
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with people who have experienced long-term homelessness
  • Ability to cope with the physical demands of the position (prolonged standing, bending/squatting/twisting, lifting, reaching, etc.)
  • Mandatory Drivers Licence with the ability to tow and reverse the Café One trailer

Before starting work, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
