About The Role

Are you looking for a role that offers variety, challenge and the opportunity to make an impact in the Southwest region as a next step in your career? We are seeking someone early in their environmental professional career to work with our highly regarded Bunbury team. The role will be diverse, working primarily in bushfire management with some environmental assessment and approvals. Project management and regular client liaison will be key to the role. You will also be actively participating in activities that contribute to great environmental outcomes for our clients, the future development of the business and your own career.

Tasks And Responsibilities

  • Undertake and/or assist with desktop and on-ground site inspections.
  • Prepare a range of bushfire and environmental assessment and reporting outputs to support our clients’ needs from site due diligence and constraints analysis to planning and approvals and risk management.
  • Conduct site inspections with or without supervision to inform opportunities and constraints assessments, Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) assessments, Bushfire Hazard Level (BHL) assessments, Bushfire Management Plans (BMPs), emergency management planning, bushfire risk management plans and compliance audit reports.
  • Work towards or apply relevant WA bushfire policy (SPP 3.7 Bushfire), guidelines (Planning for Bushfire Guidelines) and standards (AS3959-2018 Construction of Buildings in Bushfire Prone Areas).
  • Assess the environmental attributes, settings and constraints for development projects across WA and identify practical and sustainable solutions for our clients.
  • Interpret Commonwealth and State legislation, government policy, standards and guidelines to deliver tailored approvals strategies and outcomes for major projects.
  • Deliver high-quality approval applications and technical reports consistent with relevant guidance to support environmental and planning approval requirements.
  • Develop relationships with clients and ensure high quality customer service throughout projects.
  • Prepare proposals, ensuring accurate cost calculations and appropriate scoping.
  • Manage projects in line with client and company expectations.
  • Collaborate on business development initiatives that contribute to company growth.

About You

You will be early in your environmental professional career with at least 2 years’ experience in environmental management, assessment or approvals or with prior experience in or a desire to move into bushfire management planning. You will also have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Environmental Science or Engineering, with an understanding of natural resource management and environmental sciences.
  • Previous experience working in environmental assessments and approvals and/or bushfire assessment and management in consulting or industry
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to scientifically analyse and write accurate reports and complex proposals.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain client relationships and manage projects effectively, as well as the ability to identify and pursue new business opportunities.
  • A motivated team player who enjoys working with a close-knit group of professionals.
  • Full drivers’ licence, and willingness to obtain a police and medical clearance.
  • Desirable experience includes:
  • Level 1 (keen on working towards Level 2 accreditation) or Level 2 BPAD accreditation
  • Some understanding of relevant environmental legislation (state and federal), as well as state bushfire planning legislation and the ability to apply these strategically to a wide range of planning proposals.
