The Role
Our client is a family-owned business that operates a mixed livestock farm outside Camperdown in Victoria's Southwest; they are seeking a vibrant and enthusiastic individual who wants to be involved in all aspects of the property, including animal husbandry tasks and property maintenance. The well-maintained property covers 2,000 hectares and has new infrastructure and improvements to pastures, fencing, and water systems. Productivity, efficiency, and communication are highly valued by this employer, and they utilise AgriWebb throughout their operation to achieve these goals.
The sheep element makes up approximately 70% of the business with 10,000 composite ewes, with the main lambing season occurring in August, and the lambs are raised for fat lamb production, finishing off on summer crops. There is also a 250-head Angus herd for spring calves, with the progeny kept until they reach feedlot weight and then sold directly to the feedlot. In addition to this, the property generates income through agistment cattle and also trades and backgrounds cattle depending on market conditions.
The senior station hand position involves reporting directly to the manager and participating in various animal husbandry practices, such as sheep and cattle yard work, mustering, feeding livestock, operating machinery, and general property maintenance. This role entails working closely with a tight-knit team residing on the property and requires both independent work and collaboration within a team environment.
