Help Us Move to Licence NSW at NSW Fair Trading
NSW Fair Trading is the consumer protection regulator in NSW. We ensure a fair and safe marketplace for goods, services and homes in NSW. We are moving our licensing schemes from a legacy system to a new digital licensing platform, and we are looking for an analytical, detail-focused Project Officer - Data Readiness to make sure our critical licensing data is ready for the move.
This is a hands-on opportunity to take licensing data from analysis and mapping, through cleansing and migration, to confirming it has arrived complete and accurate. Your work will decide whether licence holders, and the staff who serve them, can rely on the new platform from the day it launches.
About the Role
As a Project Officer - Data Readiness, you will sit on the business team working with technical specialists, subject matter experts and our technology delivery partner to ensure our licensing data is ready for migration, and confirm that it has been moved across successfully.
You will
- Analyse data in the legacy licensing system to understand its structure, quality and business meaning.
- Map source data to the new platform's data model, and work with the technology delivery partner to confirm transformation rules.
- Profile data quality, identify gaps, duplicates and inconsistencies, and recommend how they should be cleansed.
- Plan, prioritise and track data cleansing activities, and guide and support team members who carry out cleansing work.
- Support trial and final data migrations, including reconciling record counts and key values between systems.
- Test and validate migrated data to confirm it is complete and accurate, and log, triage and follow up defects.
- Test that platform functions, such as new applications, renewals, and amendments to existing licences work correctly using the migrated records.
- Support the go-live and post go-live activities and issues that may arise following a complex systems migration exercise.
- Maintain data readiness plans and risk and issue logs, and prepare status reports for project governance.
- Work with business stakeholders to resolve data questions, and explain the impact of data decisions in plain English.
About You
You are an analytical and methodical professional who is comfortable working deep in the detail of data while keeping the delivery timeline in view. You can explain data problems clearly to people who don't work with data every day.
It is also important to note that this is a business-side role, and not a technical development role.
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Experience analysing, profiling or mapping data between systems, ideally as part of a system migration or replacement.
- A methodical approach to solving problems, reconciling data and finding the root cause of issues.
- Project coordination skills, including planning work, tracking progress, managing risks and issues, and meeting deadlines.
- Clear written and verbal communication, including explaining technical data matters to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience in testing or user acceptance testing, including writing test cases and managing defects.
- An understanding of how data quality affects customers and frontline staff, and a commitment to getting it right for them.
- The ability to guide and support the work of others, and a willingness to keep learning new tools and methods.
Essential Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in data analysis, data migration, data quality or a related role within a project environment.
- Experience with data mapping, reconciliation and validation.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel or similar tools for analysing large datasets.
Desirable
- Experience with licensing, regulatory or case management systems.
- Experience working in government or regulatory environments.
About the Team
