About the role
We’re looking for a Senior Corporate Lawyer to join Origin’s Retail Legal team. This is a senior advisory role supporting the Retail and Origin Zero businesses, with a strong focus on complex energy regulation, regulatory investigations and practical legal advice that helps the business make well-informed decisions.
Reporting to the General Manager of Legal and Compliance for Retail & Origin Zero Compliance, you’ll work closely with leaders across the business on matters relating to electricity and gas retailing, broadband and new customer propositions. You’ll be a trusted adviser who can work through complex issues, provide a clear view and keep the customer and commercial context front of mind.

What you’ll do
- Advise the Retail business on complex energy regulatory matters.
- Manage legal issues arising from regulatory incidents and investigations, including engagement with bodies such as the Australian Energy Regulator and ACCC on customer matters.
- Provide clear, practical recommendations that support sound business decisions.
- Draft and review customer contracts and communications to ensure they are clear, accurate and easy to understand.
- Advise on implementation of Keep the business informed of relevant legislative and , regulatory and policy changes.
- Manage external legal advisers and ensure their support is commercial, customer-focused and cost-effective.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to other junior lawyers.
What you’ll bring
- Admission as an Australian lawyer and around 8–10+ years’ relevant post-admission experience.
- Strong knowledge of energy regulation, ideally with a focus on in a retail energy regulations.
- Experience managing regulatory incidents and investigations, including dealings with the Australian Energy Regulator, ACCC or similar regulators.
- Sound judgement and a practical, solutions-focused approach.
- The ability to explain complex issues clearly and give confident, well-reasoned advice.
- Strong influencing and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to manage a varied workload and competing deadlines.
