What You’ll Do
As a Senior Subsurface Data Specialist you will enhance the delivery and quality of subsurface Geology, Geophysics & Engineering (GG&E) data across our Australian and PNG assets, with a focus on Geophysical data. You’ll be a recognised expert ensuring asset teams have high-quality, readily available subsurface data to drive better decisions.
Key Accountabilities Include
- Providing technical expertise in sourcing, validation, ingestion, curation and presentation of subsurface data in accordance with enterprise standards and industry best practice
- Maintaining master data repositories for subsurface GG&E assets, ensuring data integrity, accessibility and compliance across the asset lifecycle
- Designing and executing strategic data quality improvement programs that deliver measurable uplift in data reliability, completeness and usability
- Championing innovation in data management methodologies, identifying and implementing emerging technologies and practices that enhance operational efficiency
- Leading cross-functional data management initiatives, collaborating with geoscientists, engineers, IT and external vendors to deliver integrated solutions
- Preparing and maintaining comprehensive documentation of critical data administration workflows, ensuring knowledge transfer and operational resilience
- Coordinating the preparation and distribution of data packages to joint venture partners, external contractors and regulatory bodies
- Ensuring full compliance with regulatory reporting requirements, data sharing agreements and commercial obligations
- Representing Santos in technical forums and industry working groups related to subsurface data standards and practices
What you’ll bring
You will be experienced in:
- Extensive experience in oil and gas exploration and production with a major operator or leading application vendor
- Mastery of data standards and architectures supporting subsurface GG&E applications including Petrosys DbMap, Petrel, Techlog, Geolog, Wellview and Landfolio
- Extensive experience in seismic and well data management, including quality assurance, metadata governance and lifecycle management across complex multi-asset portfolios
- Proficiency with SQL scripting, Microsoft Office suite, document management systems and executive dashboarding tools (e.g. Power BI)
- Comprehensive knowledge of Subsurface GG&E practices, procedures and industry standards
- Continuous improvement, mentoring colleagues and elevating data literacy
- PPDM Professional Data Management certification is highly desirable.
