The Position

We are seeking an experienced and motivated

Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) to join our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on a permanent full-time basis.

Working closely with the Nurse Unit Manager and broader clinical leadership team, you will provide clinical leadership and support the day-to-day operations of the ICU, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality and patient-centred care to critically ill patients.

The Position

  • Provide clinical leadership and support to the ICU nursing team, promoting safe, high-quality and patient-centred care.
  • Support the day-to-day coordination and efficient operation of the ICU, including patient flow, bed management, staffing and clinical priorities.
  • Work collaboratively with the Nurse Unit Manager, medical team and multidisciplinary team to ensure the safe and effective delivery of critical care services.
  • Provide clinical support, guidance and escalation for nursing staff, assisting with complex patient care and clinical matters.
  • Support staff allocation and rostering requirements to ensure appropriate skill mix, capability and safe staffing levels within the ICU.
  • Provide leadership in the assessment, management and ongoing monitoring of critically ill patients, supporting staff in complex clinical situations.
  • Promote and maintain high standards of clinical practice, infection prevention and control, medication safety, documentation and compliance with ICU policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to the orientation, education, supervision and professional development of nursing staff and students, including supporting preceptorship and competency development.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative and supportive team environment that encourages effective communication, accountability and professional practice.
  • Monitor and contribute to quality improvement, risk management, clinical governance and patient safety initiatives within the ICU.
  • Assist with the implementation of departmental and hospital operational objectives, policies and procedures.
  • Support the Nurse Unit Manager with the ongoing review and improvement of ICU processes, systems and patient outcomes.
  • Act as a senior clinical resource within the ICU and provide leadership in the absence of the Nurse Unit Manager as required.

About You

You will hold current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse, with demonstrated recent experience within an Intensive Care Unit or critical care environment. Previous leadership or senior nursing experience, including experience in an ANUM, Clinical Nurse or equivalent role, will be highly regarded.

You will bring strong critical care knowledge, sound clinical judgement and excellent communication skills, with the ability to confidently support staff and respond effectively to complex and changing clinical situations.

You will demonstrate a commitment to patient-centred care, clinical excellence, staff development and continuous improvement.

To succeed in this role, you will have the ability to lead and support a diverse nursing team, manage competing clinical and operational priorities, and contribute positively to a high-performing ICU service. A commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining contemporary critical care nursing practice is essential.

The Benefits

  • Salary: $120,835 to $124,903 (pro rata for part time), plus 12% superannuation
  • Permanent full-time position.
