Newborn Services at Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s is seeking a passionate and motivated Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) to join our growing team.

This is an exciting opportunity to combine your neonatal clinical expertise with leadership, education and operational management, while making a meaningful difference to the care and experience of newborns and their families.

As an ANUM, you will be a visible and supportive clinical leader within the unit, working alongside the Nurse Unit Manager and multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, high-quality, evidence-based and family-centred care.

You will play an important role in supporting our nurses to develop their skills, confidence and capability while fostering a positive and collaborative team culture.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide strong clinical leadership and role model excellence in neonatal nursing practice.
  • Coordinate and support the delivery of safe, high-quality care across the shift.
  • Lead, support and motivate staff to achieve positive outcomes for babies, families and the team. Support the education, orientation, preceptorship and professional development of nurses at all levels. Promote evidence-based practice, quality improvement, clinical safety and innovation.
  • Work collaboratively with medical, allied health and other multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care. Contribute to effective staffing, workload allocation, rostering, resource management and operational flow.
  • Support staff wellbeing, professional relationships and a positive workplace culture.

About you

  • Current Registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA.
  • Neonatal expertise – with a Neonatal Intensive Care postgraduate qualification and demonstrated neonatal clinical competence.
  • Strong clinical leadership – Demonstrated ability to lead, support and develop nursing staff, with effective communication, interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Commitment to safe, evidence-based care – A strong commitment to high-quality, safe and person-centred care, with knowledge of NSQHS Standards and a demonstrated ability to contribute to quality improvement and evidence-based practice.
