Consumer and Customer Insights Lead

Goodman Fielder

Be the voice of the customer and build the engine behind it.

Are you deeply curious about why people buy what they buy? Do you want to help pioneer a high-impact priority for a business whose brands reach millions of Australians every day? Are you willing to roll up your sleeves and shape something new from the ground up?

At Goodman Fielder, we're behind some of Australia's most-loved food brands. Our team is helping to reinvent how we reach customers, starting with insights and data to inform our plans and decisioning.

You'll lead our insights capability, get to the real reasons people buy (and don't buy), and help us make better decisions with them. This is a chance to step up, take a new challenge, and transform a business investing in change.

The opportunity

We have rich data (shopper data, survey data, customer insights) and big questions. We want to move beyond insights simply informing our plans. In the future insights will be key to how we decide, linking clearly from business question → customer need → evidence → implication → decision → what we learned. You'll lead that shift as the first dedicated insights lead in a new Marketing Engagement & Effectiveness team, reporting to the Head of Marketing Engagement & Effectiveness.

GF is decentralised and entrepreneurial. You'll be given big challenges and trusted to shape the agenda, not just take research requests.

What You'll Do

  • Get beneath the surface. Uncover unmet consumer and shopper needs, including the ones the data alone doesn't show.
  • Stitch the evidence together. Build mechanisms to combine scan, shopper, survey, social and customer data. Bridge gaps and resolve conflicts between sources.
  • Reframe business questions so we're solving the right problem, then turn insight into clear recommendations that change plans.
  • Help build for the era of AI teammates. Pilot agentic AI in how we plan, execute, and analyse insights, democratising capability to the team.
  • Make insight faster and easier to use, with modern tools and AI. You'll have room and support to experiment, whether you've already built with AI or are keen to start.
  • Help teams help themselves. Create frameworks and ways of working so brand, sales and innovation teams use insight well every day.

How You'll Work

You'll think and act both strategically and hands-on, from framing the question to designing the research, doing the analysis and landing the decision. Because this capability is early-stage, you'll be known for diving deep, testing new approaches, and turning what works into repeatable ways of working. You care as much about simplicity as you do about rigour.

What your first year could look like

You Won't Be Expected To Have Done All Of This Before. This Is The Opportunity, And You'll Build It With The Team And Our Partners

  • A clear learning agenda: the handful of customer questions that matter most for growth, and a plan to answer them.
  • Insight at the decision table: a planning rhythm where the right insights are in the room when big brand and portfolio decisions get made, and we look back at what we learned.
  • Faster, sharper insight: new tools and AI helping to turn research and data into decision-ready recommendations in days, not weeks.

Is this you?

If you've got a track record of teaching yourself new things, and of going after problems before anyone asks, put your hand up. That's true whether you have 5 years' experience or 10+.

What You'll Bring

  • Around 5–7+ years in insights, research, analytics or a commercial strategy role.
  • Comfort across both qual and quant. You'll feel comfortable designing a survey one day and interrogating scan data the next.
  • Experience turning messy or incomplete data into a clear recommendation.
  • A solid research and analysis process, and curiosity about how AI and new tools could make it better.
  • The ability to simplify complexity and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Nice to have: FMCG, retail or shopper experience.
