Manager Commercial Gas - Territory Generation
Davidson
- Build and lead TGen's newly established commercial gas function
- Shape the commercial strategy for a major new gas portfolio
- Lead complex negotiations, market strategy and commercial growth
Territory Generation (TGen) is the Northern Territory's trusted energy services business and largest wholesale electricity generator, playing a critical role in powering communities, businesses and industry across the Territory. We own and operate eight power stations, with a diverse generation portfolio spanning gas, diesel, solar, biofuel and battery energy storage.
As the Northern Territory's energy landscape evolves, TGen is investing in new technologies and energy solutions while maintaining the reliability, affordability and system security essential to the Territory's future.
Reporting to the General Manager Commercial and Business Development, the Manager Commercial Gas will lead a newly established function responsible for managing and optimising TGen's gas portfolio across the Northern Territory and East Coast markets. This is a rare opportunity to establish a new commercial capability from the ground up and take strategic responsibility for a significant and complex energy portfolio.
The role will oversee the transition of gas supply and customer contracts into TGen, ensuring reliable supply for the generation fleet while maximising the commercial value of contracted gas. With TGen's requirements representing only part of the available portfolio, a key focus will be developing and executing the strategies required to optimise surplus gas, manage market exposure and build a sustainable commercial position over the longer term.
You will lead the negotiation and management of complex Gas Supply Agreements, Master Gas Supply Agreements and Gas Transportation Agreements, supported by sophisticated forecasting, pricing, scenario and pipeline analysis. Working across short, medium and long-term market horizons, you will provide strategic advice on portfolio optimisation, gas marketing, risk and emerging opportunities across the NT and East Coast gas markets.
A significant early priority will be establishing the function itself. You will build and lead a specialist team, embed the systems, governance, delegations and risk frameworks required to operate effectively, and establish strong relationships with suppliers, customers, pipeline operators, regulators and government. As the portfolio matures, the focus will increasingly turn to optimising existing arrangements, developing new customer opportunities and positioning TGen to respond to future growth in Territory energy demand.
To be considered, you will bring substantial commercial gas market experience, ideally gained across gas trading, portfolio management, origination, supply or a related commercial environment. You will have demonstrated experience negotiating complex gas supply and transportation agreements, supported by strong capability in financial modelling, valuation, pricing, forecasting and market risk.
Your knowledge of Australian wholesale gas markets and experience dealing with multiple suppliers and customers will enable you to identify value across a complex portfolio. Just as importantly, you will be a credible leader and negotiator, capable of building a high-performing team and navigating relationships across commercial counterparties, regulators, government and senior organisational stakeholders.
This is an opportunity to take ownership of a significant new commercial portfolio and build the capability that will manage it for the future. For an experienced gas commercial leader, it offers a compelling combination of portfolio optimisation, market strategy, complex negotiation and the opportunity to solve a genuine commercial challenge.
