The Opportunity

Maribyrnong City Council has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Portfolio & Project Management Business Partner to join our Asset Management and Capital Works team.

Reporting to the Coordinator Portfolio & Project Management, this role is responsible for supporting the governance, administration, monitoring and reporting of Council's capital works and strategic project portfolio. You will play a key role in providing trusted advice, project governance support, portfolio reporting and continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen project delivery outcomes across the organisation.

As a Portfolio & Project Management Business Partner, you will:

  • Provide portfolio reporting, analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making and portfolio oversight.
  • Monitor portfolio performance and identify emerging risks, issues, trends and opportunities to improve project outcomes.
  • Support forecasting, financial reporting and benefits realisation activities.
  • Maintain and continuously improve Council's Project Management Framework, methodologies, tools and guidance materials.
  • Undertake project assurance activities including health checks, quality reviews and audits.
  • Administer and maintain portfolio management systems, ensuring data quality, integrity and reporting accuracy.
  • Develop and enhance dashboards, performance metrics and reporting capabilities.
  • Partner with project managers and stakeholders to provide governance, reporting and project management advice.
  • Deliver training, workshops and capability development initiatives to improve project management maturity across Council.

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience working within a Project Management Office (PMO) or Portfolio Management Office environment.
  • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, governance frameworks and reporting practices.
  • Experience supporting complex infrastructure, capital works or strategic project portfolios.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and provide meaningful insights.
  • Experience coaching and guiding stakeholders while building capability and promoting best-practice project management.
  • Strong negotiation, facilitation and influencing skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare high-quality reports and engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
