Payroll Manager, APAC

The Payroll Manager is responsible for the governance and operational delivery of payroll services across APAC. This role ensures the timely, accurate, and compliant delivery of payroll while driving continuous process improvement, strengthening internal controls, optimizing employee experience, and supporting regional growth. The Payroll Manager partners closely with People, Finance, Legal, Technology, external payroll providers, and government authorities to mitigate risk, maintain compliance, and implement payroll best practices across multiple countries.

What you’ll do:

  • Accountable for end-to-end payroll operations across APAC, ensuring the timely, accurate, compliant processing, delivery, reconciliation, and reporting of payroll, including regular and off-cycle payroll runs.
  • Establish and maintain a robust payroll governance framework, including internal controls, audits, reconciliations, compliance monitoring, issue management, and payroll risk mitigation.
  • Ensure compliance with country specific payroll legislation, tax requirements, statutory reporting obligations, and year end payroll activities across all supported jurisdictions.
  • Manage relationships with payroll vendors, tax advisors, and external service providers, ensuring service levels, compliance obligations, and contractual commitments are met while driving continuous improvement in service delivery.
  • Ensure payroll service delivery meets defined service levels and key performance metrics, driving accountability and operational excellence across internal and external providers.
  • Oversee pre and post payroll activities, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions that address root causes and drive sustainable improvements.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high performing payroll team through effective goal setting, performance management, succession planning, capability development, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Partner with Finance, People Services, Legal, Total Rewards, Technology, and external providers to ensure payroll processes align with business objectives and compliance requirements.
  • Resolve complex and escalated payroll matters, providing guidance and recommendations to leadership as required.
  • Create, maintain, and continuously improve payroll policies, procedures, documentation, cross training, and business continuity plans to ensure consistency, scalability, operational resilience, and continuity of payroll services.
  • Analyze payroll metrics and trends, providing reporting, insights, and recommendations to People, Finance, and business leaders.
  • Lead payroll related projects, system enhancements, and process improvement initiatives that improve efficiency, controls, scalability, and employee experience.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What you’ll bring:

  • Demonstrated experience managing multi country payroll operations across APAC, with strong knowledge of payroll legislation, taxation, and employment requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Proven experience leading and developing payroll teams within a complex, fast paced environment, including managing change, process transformation, and business growth.
  • Strong understanding of payroll governance, internal controls, audit practices, compliance requirements, and risk management principles.
  • Experience partnering effectively with stakeholders across People, Finance, Legal, Technology, and external vendors, with strong communication, relationship management, and influencing skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including payroll reconciliations, reporting, trend analysis, and the use of data to drive operational improvements.
  • Experience implementing and optimizing payroll systems, processes, and service delivery models.
  • Experience with global payroll platforms such as ADP Celergo, Workday, or similar multinational payroll systems preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Teams, Outlook, and Word.
