Maternity Quality & Safety Lead

• Salary: Admin Grade 5 (commensurate with experience) + Superannuation + Salary Packaging

About the role

As Maternity Quality and Safety Lead, you will be a key member of the Women’s and Children’s leadership team, providing dedicated senior clinical leadership and expert advice to strengthen quality, safety, governance and service performance across Western Health’s large and complex maternity services.

Reporting to the Operations Manager – Maternity Services, you will work in close partnership with the Obstetric Head of Unit, Midwifery Unit Managers, the Best Care Division and broader multidisciplinary teams to drive a coordinated approach to clinical governance, risk management, standards compliance, accreditation readiness and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the maternity quality and safety program across Western Health, including governance frameworks, quality and safety priorities, incident management, risk management and improvement actions.
• Monitor quality and safety performance using adverse events, compliance measures, patient experience, audit findings and organisational indicators to identify risks, trends and opportunities for improvement.
• Lead review of incidents, serious adverse patient safety events and emerging maternity risks, ensuring recommendations and improvement actions are implemented and monitored.
• Provide expert midwifery advice and representation in internal and external safety huddles, committees, reviews, working groups and maternity quality and safety forums.
• Provide leadership, direction, coaching and performance management to the maternity quality and safety team, building capability in quality, safety and improvement practice.

About you

• Registered as a Midwife with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
• Relevant postgraduate qualification in quality, safety, leadership, management or a related field, preferably at Masters level or working towards.
• Extensive senior clinical and leadership experience in maternity services within a large and complex healthcare environment.
• Demonstrated expertise in clinical governance, quality and safety systems, incident review, accreditation, audit, risk management and continuous improvement.
• Strong communication, consultation, stakeholder engagement, negotiation and analytical skills, with the ability to use data to monitor performance, identify risk and drive improvement.
