Senior Occupational Therapist - Local Mental Health & Wellbeing Service

About the role

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join Western Health in a senior clinical role based within the Melton Local Mental Health and Wellbeing Service.

This is a Western Health position embedded within the Melton Local. The successful applicant will be employed and line-managed by Western Health while working day to day as part of the integrated Melton Local team.

The Melton Local provides adults and older adults with a welcoming, accessible entry point to mental health and wellbeing support. Mind Australia is the lead agency in a consortium with IPC Health, Western Health and Thorne Harbour Health. Together, the partners provide integrated clinical, wellbeing, therapeutic and alcohol and other drug support, with consumers at the centre of their treatment, support and care coordination.

Key responsibilities

As the Grade 4 Occupational Therapist, you will provide advanced occupational therapy leadership, assessment, intervention and consultation within the Melton Local. You will work closely with clinicians, lived and living experience workers and other service partners to support coordinated, recovery-oriented care.

You will:

• Provide advanced occupational therapy assessment and intervention to consumers with a range of mental health and psychosocial needs.
• Deliver individual, family, carer and group-based therapeutic interventions.
• Provide clinical advice and occupational therapy consultation to Western Health staff, consortium partners and external stakeholders.
• Contribute to service development as the Melton Local continues to grow and respond to community demand.
• Build relationships and referral pathways with local health, community, NDIS, vocational and employment services.
• Support consumers to participate in meaningful activities and live the life of their choosing within their community.
• Provide supervision, guidance and discipline-specific support to Grade 2 and Grade 3 Occupational Therapists and other staff where appropriate.
• Contribute to education, research, quality improvement and the ongoing development of occupational therapy practice within the service.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• An approved degree in occupational therapy or an equivalent recognised qualification.
• Current general registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia through AHPRA.
• A minimum of five years’ experience practising as a registered Occupational Therapist.
• Experience working in public mental health or a similar mental health setting.
• Advanced knowledge of occupational therapy theory, models, assessments and interventions.
• A strong understanding of recovery-oriented practice and the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022.
• Demonstrated leadership, supervision, consultation and service-development capabilities.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
• The ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary and multi-agency environment.
• A current Victorian driver’s licence.
