Bechtel is providing a wide variety project and contract management services, crossing all disciplines, to customers in Western Australia to support exciting capital works programmes, including in aviation, defence and energy infrastructure. We are looking for people to join us in a long-term relationship to deliver these services in and around Perth where we are working within integrated teams with our customers and to help build Bechtel’s capabilities for even greater opportunities in the future.
Job Summary
The Project Manager leads planning, scope definition, and stakeholder coordination to deliver projects on time, within budget, and in compliance with the project's standards.
Major Responsibilities
Leadership / Supervision
- Coordinate project resources, allocate work, monitor performance, and support team development through communication, mentoring, and coaching.
- Monitor that processes and procedures are fully developed and implemented.
- Engage stakeholders, facilitate collaboration, and define, document, and manage project requirements to ensure alignment with business needs and project objectives.
Planning / Productivity
- Develop and manage project plans, scope, schedules, resources, budgets, and deliverables to ensure successful outcomes aligned with organisational frameworks.
- Identify, assess, and manage risks, issues, dependencies, contracts, and project changes, ensuring appropriate governance, approvals, and mitigation strategies.
- Prepare and present reports and forecasts, including summaries of construction progress and expenditure forecasts.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiency, quality, and project outcomes, contributing to organisational best practice.
Safety & Quality
- Actively monitor contractor compliance with safety requirements and encourage contractors to perform in a safe manner.
- Monitor work activities and the quality of work performed by the contractor.
Commercial / Contracts
- Prepare Request for Tender (RFT) documentation and actively participate in bid evaluation and recommendations to award.
- Actively participate through the procurement phase including evaluations and recommendations to award.
- Develop contractor claim mitigation and claim avoidance strategies.
Education And Experience Requirements
Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge And Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering , Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline combined with over 5 years of relevant professional experience in project or construction management.
- Demonstrated technical knowledge of construction systems, applications of engineering, and construction methods and materials relevant to major infrastructure or aviation projects.
- Experience working with and managing contracts, including monitoring deliverables and ensuring compliance with project requirements.
- Knowledge of construction practices and project economics, along with awareness of new and emerging methods of design and construction.
- Strong project management skills, with exposure to planning, scheduling, cost tracking, and risk management.
- Effective interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact closely with clients, contractors, and internal teams while maintaining commercial awareness.
Desirable Experience
- Prior involvement in aviation or large -scale infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with project information systems and collaboration platforms (e.g., Aconex, SharePoint, MS Project).
- Ability to contribute to continuous improvement in project delivery processes.
- Strong foundation for developing into a senior project management role, with potential for leadership growth.
