The Facilities Maintenance Unit is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of buildings, infrastructure, and essential services. The team delivers planned and reactive maintenance to support a high-quality environment for staff, customers, and stakeholders.

About the Position

The Rapid-Response General Tradesperson (R-RGT) will be responsible for providing trade services as part of the Facility Maintenance Business Unit - Rapid Response Team, responsible for the prompt attendance and review for all maintenance and repairs, enquiries received with relation to Council buildings and facilities to ensure that they are safe and fit for purpose.

The expectation is that the R-RGT initial response will be to make safe and assess if it is a quick job to be completed on-the-spot and / or 'make-safe' and / or to report back to the team leader if it requires specialist or wider-works / complex repair.

This role will deliver a high standard of work in line with the City of Monash policies and procedures, contractual, client 'Service Level Agreements', regulatory / legislative requirements and best-practice, in keeping with the Infrastructure Division branch vision or "Better, Safer Assets".

The R-RGT is further responsible for ensuring a safe working environment for colleagues, customers, and the general public and is required to adhere to all policies and procedures including Quality Assurance and Occupational Health and Safety.

This role may be required to undertake duties deemed fair and in keeping with the nature of the role from time to time, as directed by the Facilities Maintenance Operations Officer (FMOO).

Skills and Experience

  • Sound up to date knowledge and application of Australian building standards
  • Skills in oral communication with contractors
  • Skills in written communication for routine correspondence;
  • Ability to discuss and resolve problems -internally and externally;
  • Sound communication skills in dealing with a wide range of stakeholders including Council staff, contractors and members of community and service groups;
  • Ability to inspect, assess and report on maintenance issues;
  • Safe handling skills and well developed knowledge of hazardous materials and the City of Monash OHS policies and procedures;
  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate small plant and trade machinery, including ladders and platforms;

Requirements

  • Trade Certificate in painting, carpentry, general trades (i.e. electrical, plumbing, mechanical etc.) and extensive relevant experience;
  • Relevant experience in the building industry, with a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Building Act and Regulations, National Construction Code of Australia and relevant Australian standards;
  • Ability to work unsupervised and meet deadlines;
  • Computer skills and experience in using current business software packages;
  • Willingness to undertake work outside of normal hours as may be required;
  • A current Victorian or equivalent drivers licence.
  • Working with Children's Check
  • Satisfactory National Police Check; and
  • Other pre-employment checks may be required depending on the role requirements.
