Position Description
The SHFC Program is responsible for the provision of the Defence High Frequency Communications System (DHFCS) capability to the Joint Capabilities Group (JCG) Capability Manager (CM). Capability is provided through Sustainment under CJC010, and enhancement under the JP9101PH1 Project.
Responsibilities
The Communications Engineer JP9101 L3 responsibilities include:
- Demonstrate extensive expertise in HF engineering, including system design, analysis, and performance evaluation.
- Review, interpret, and assess engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation, and provide high-quality engineering feedback on contract deliverables to support the implementation of the EDHFCS solution.
- Develop, review, and maintain high-quality engineering documentation, including design reports, test procedures, technical assessments, and the broader JP9101 Engineering Documentation Suite, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and compliance with organisational standards.
- Support the integration, verification, validation, and troubleshooting of HF subsystems, ensuring alignment with system requirements and engineering best practice.
- Provide expert technical advice and actively participate in design reviews, technical working groups, and engineering governance activities with internal stakeholders and external vendors.
- Exercise Engineering Delegation as authorised by the Chief Engineer IC3SPO, and maintain oversight of technical risks associated with JP9101 systems and activities.
- Collaborate with the wider JP9101 Project Team to deliver engineering input across all discipline areas and ensure alignment across project streams.
- Coordinate and facilitate workshops with the JP9101 Engineering Team and project stakeholders as required.
- Ensure compliance with IC3SPO Quality Management System (QMS) requirements for all JP9101 engineering processes and documentation.
- All other tasks as directed.
Qualifications & Experience
- Chartered Professional Engineer of a registered Professional Engineering Body, such as Engineers Australia, or able to attain chartered status.
- Knowledge of and experience in the One Defence Capability System (ODCS).
- Tertiary qualifications in Communications Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder communication skills.
- Experience in leadership and management roles and ability to coach and guide teams.
- ASDEFCON Suite experience.
