About The Role

At Peak Downs Mine, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact at one of Australia's largest metallurgical coal operations. Located near Dysart in Queensland's Bowen Basin on the traditional lands of the Barada Barna people, Peak Downs is part of BHP's world-class portfolio and is committed to creating a safe, inclusive and supportive workplace where everyone can thrive.

As the Principal Haulage Engineer, you will play a key leadership role in shaping haulage strategies that support safe, efficient and sustainable mining outcomes. Working closely with operational, planning and technical teams, you'll influence decisions across tactical, budget and medium-term planning horizons while helping develop the next generation of mining professionals.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys combining technical expertise with collaboration, mentoring and continuous improvement.

In This Role, You Will

  • Lead the development of haulage plans and designs that support operational and business objectives.
  • Shape and communicate the site's haulage strategy and planning direction.
  • Mentor, coach and support haulage engineers and planning professionals, helping others grow and succeed.
  • Work collaboratively across mine planning, technical and operational teams to optimise mining outcomes.
  • Conduct haulage studies, modelling and scenario analysis to support informed decision-making.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance planning processes, systems and performance.
  • Contribute to risk assessments, operational reviews and improvement opportunities.
  • Champion safe planning practices and proactive risk management in all aspects of work.

The roster is offered as either 4/3 or 5/2, depending on your location, with flexibility to be discussed throughout the recruitment process.

About You

You are a collaborative and forward-thinking mining professional who enjoys solving complex problems and influencing positive outcomes. You bring a strong technical foundation, along with the ability to build trusted relationships across a range of stakeholders.

You Will Have

  • A degree qualification in Mining Engineering.
  • Extensive experience within mine planning and operational environments.
  • Experience in designing, planning and scheduling for open-cut coal mining operations.
  • Strong knowledge of mine planning software, including SPRY, Deswik and/or Vulcan.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with people at all levels.
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement and delivering results through collaboration.
