With its head office in Adelaide, 150 dedicated staff and a turnover approaching $25m, HAMB Systems Limited (HAMBS) is a values driven and profit-for-purpose Australian company owned by 15 private health insurance funds across Australia representing 25 brands. For over 30 years, the sole objective of the company has been to provide ongoing application software development, technical support and a selection of secure wide area network services, including application hosting, to the member funds.

Providing oversight for transformation and strategic direction, HAMBS is seeking a forward-thinking and experienced independent board director who will contribute to the governance, strategic direction and management of the organisation. The Board comprises of a number of representatives from member funds and three independent board members, including the Chair.

Applicants must bring:

  • experience running, growing, and evolving a successful ICT or related business or business unit;
  • experience governing or managing the implementation of large and transformative programs;
  • accounting and finance – the ability to read and comprehend the company’s accounts, financial material presented to the board, financial reporting requirements and some understanding of corporate finance;
  • ICT strategy & governance – experience in managing information and communications technology, program management, and knowledge of IT governance, including privacy, data management and security;
  • strategic Business Development experience – leveraging core competencies (including systems, data, and digital assets) in support of sustainable growth through new revenue streams and new markets;
  • previous board experience, demonstrating knowledge of a director’s responsibilities – including an understanding of the role as well as legal, ethical, fiduciary, and financial responsibilities involved and the ability to separate, where necessary, the role of the Board and management. GAICD status is preferred;
  • strategic Business Development experience – leveraging core competencies (including systems, data, and digital assets) in support of sustainable growth through new revenue streams and new markets;
  • proven experience in supporting ongoing strategic investment in complex technology platforms and products to enable business and technology sustainability that delivers an evergreen platform.

It is expected that candidates will demonstrate high level leadership, communication, negotiation, commercial acumen, strategic thinking and stakeholder management skills. The appointee will be attractively remunerated. There is a preference for the incoming board member to be Adelaide based but consideration will be given to alternative locations for other compelling candidates.
