About the Opportunity
As a WorkSafe Inspector, you'll complete a comprehensive training program designed to equip you with the skills, knowledge and confidence to succeed in a regulatory environment.
Once appointed, you'll spend much of your time visiting workplaces across a variety of industries, assessing workplace safety, investigating concerns and helping organisations meet their legal obligations.
No two days are the same. You will:
- Provide a specialist focus on consultation, representation and issue resolution in the OHS Act 2004.
- Assist and advise employers, supervisors and workers on how to make workplaces safe and undertake enforcement action to ensure compliance with health and safety laws.
- Utilise expertise to manage complex, high profile or high-risk interventions, to provide support, guidance and coordination of activities to other field employees and the provision of authoritative advice when required.
- Utilise recognised area of expertise to provide specialist advice and expertise to the field team and stakeholders in relation to appropriate legislation and its application to workplace Health and Safety Representatives, Authorised Representatives of Registered Employee Organisations (ARREOs), employer representatives and other duty holders.
- Inspect workplaces and assess compliance with occupational health and safety legislation.
- Investigate incidents, hazards and safety concerns.
- Influence positive workplace safety outcomes.
- Build productive relationships with stakeholders.

About You
Our Inspectors come from diverse professional backgrounds but share a common goal: ensuring every worker returns home safely at the end of the day.
- You will have experience in dealing with consultation, representation and issue resolution in the OHS Act 2004.
- A systems-thinking approach through experience and/or application
- Strong critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
- The ability to assess situations and make sound decisions under pressure
- Excellent influencing, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- The ability to interpret and apply legislation, standards or technical information
- Confidence using technology and computer systems
- Qualifications in occupational health and safety, compliance, a trade, technical discipline or relevant industry experience are desirable but not essential

Indicative Recruitment Timeline

- Police, Reference & Medical Checks: November/December
- Offers & Contracts: December
- Employment Commencement: February
- 16-Week Paid Induction Program: Monday 8th February
Successful applicants will also be required to enrol in a Diploma of Government as part of their development.

Eligibility Requirements
To be considered, applicants must:
- Hold a valid, unrestricted Victorian Driver's Licence
- Be available for all recruitment activities and training dates
- Successfully complete National Criminal History, Reference and Medical Checks
- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or hold permanent residency
Please note, induction training will involve attendance at our Essendon Fields office three days per week and your local office two days per week throughout the 16-week program.
