About The Role

We are looking for a Senior Training and Checking Aircrew Officer to join our team at the Hobart / Cambridge Airport facility, supporting StarFlight Australia's Aeromedical, Search and Rescue, and Air Law Enforcement operations for the people and State of Tasmania. Reporting directly to the Chief Aircrew Officer (CACO), and working closely with the Base Manager, this full-time position primarily follows a Monday to Friday schedule, with roster coverage required from time to time to maintain operational recency, cover leave and crew illness, and support Training & Checking activities as needed.

The role blends administrative responsibilities with hands-on Check and Training delivery for Flight and Medical crews, along with ACO line shifts to backfill leave and support day-to-day operational continuity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the pilot in carrying out all aeromedical, search and rescue, emergency, counter-disaster, and other government support operations.
  • Promptly advise the Captain of any matters affecting the safety, serviceability, or effectiveness of the aircraft or the operation.
  • Carry out all duties and training in accordance with the StarFlight Operations Manual.
  • Help ensure flight and task documentation is completed accurately, and that all crews are properly briefed and debriefed.
  • Conduct Training and Checking duties for all Flight and Medical crew.
  • Maintain and document currency and recency requirements for all flight and medical crew.
  • Oversee the serviceability and compliance of all operational role equipment.
  • Arrange and oversee the logistics and planning of sortie profiles for annual training sorties.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and guidance to all Aircrew Officers, Rescue Crew Officers, and Medical Transport Specialists assigned duties within the Tasmanian Emergency Air Service (TEAS).
  • Contribute to the development, review, and monitoring of aircrew standards, systems, and procedures to ensure compliance with the Aviation Act, CASA Regulations and Orders, and AOC requirements.
  • Provide active leadership in the Company's Safety Management System (SMS) and Workplace Health & Safety framework.

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum 1000 hours as a Helicopter Aircrew Officer.
  • Certificate IV Aviation – Aircrew Officer.
  • Winch Endorsement.
  • Demonstrated Training and Checking experience within the EMS industry.
  • NVIS qualification.
  • CASA Class 2 Medical. Current Senior First Aid / CPR. Crew Resource Management. HUET / EBS Qualified. Dangerous Good Awareness.
  • Ability to pass the StarFlight Functionality Assessment (ACO).

Desirable

  • Minimum 100 hours NVIS experience, including night winching.
  • Front Left Hand Seat Operations (IFR). FLIR Operations. AROC (Aeronautical Radio Operator's Certificate).
  • SAR / EMS experience on B412 or EC/H145.
