The Opportunity
The Work Health and Safety (WHS) team are responsible for keeping our workplaces safe and enhancing employee health and wellbeing. The team leads health and safety programs, systems and initiatives to ensure all workplaces across the Agency are as safe and healthy as possible. The team provides information, advice and guidance on general WHS and legislative matters, oversees compliance, due diligence and assurance activities and works in conjunction with the ASD Leadership team to ensure safety is at the forefront of ASD’s daily business and operational activities.
An ASD EL2 Work Health and Safety Director is accountable under limited direction to:
- Lead a team, managing allocated resources, setting work area priorities, managing workflows, developing strategies and evaluating business outcomes.
- Manage completion of work within timeframes and quality requirements, share own expertise with others and guide and mentor less experienced employees.
- Undertake complex research and analysis activities to identify and address work health and safety risks to capability.
- Provide advice, collaborate and communicate with stakeholders on complex to very complex and sensitive work health and safety issues.
- Understand and apply relevant work health and safety legislation, ASD policies and procedures, recommending viable solutions and prevention strategies to address work health and safety issues.
- Build productive working relationships with stakeholders to influence decisions and ensure alignment with broader strategic objectives.
- Represent ASD work health and safety network at internal and external forums.
- Assess and evaluate work health and safety strategy, initiatives, projects, policy and procedures.
- Analyse complex to very complex work health and safety issues applying expertise to identify and recommend courses of action

- The proven ability to exercise sound judgement, discretion, and integrity including the ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy
- Demonstrable attention to detail, with the ability to take responsibility for own actions and accurate completion of work
- The ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage competing priorities and triage effectively while still ensuring key targets are met
- Experience implementing strategic HR initiatives, and experience leading and managing a team to be high performing and collaborative.
