Switchboard Designer

Are you an experienced Switchboard Designer with a strong understanding of electrical drawings, switchboard construction and manufacturing?

We are currently seeking an Intermediate to Senior Switchboard Designer to join an established engineering and manufacturing environment, working across a range of Motor Control Centres (MCCs), PLC panels and custom-built switchboards.

This role would particularly suit someone who has developed their technical knowledge from the workshop floor, understands how switchboards are physically assembled and manufactured, and has progressed into design, drafting or technical review.

The Role

This is not a pure drafting position. While AutoCAD will form part of the role, a large focus will be on reviewing and interpreting electrical documentation and developing practical switchboard solutions ready for manufacture.

You Will Work With Documentation Including

• Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)
• Schematic Diagrams
• Three-Line Diagrams
• Block Diagrams
• Termination Diagrams
• Technical specifications and client requirements

Typical projects will involve receiving electrical drawings and specifications, determining the most appropriate switchboard configuration, working alongside engineering and project teams, preparing and reviewing the design and supporting the project through approval and manufacture.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and interpret complex electrical drawings and specifications
• Complete CAD design and drafting for distribution boards, MCCs, control panels and other switchboards
• Develop practical switchboard layouts suitable for manufacture
• Review designs and drafting completed by others to ensure accuracy and compliance
• Ensure designs meet relevant Australian Standards and project specifications
• Prepare layouts, specifications, bills of quantities and material lists
• Work collaboratively with Project Engineers, Project Managers and other members of the engineering and design team
• Support continuous improvement of switchboard designs and manufacturing methods
• Assist with technical queries throughout fabrication, installation and commissioning
• Conduct factory inspections where required

About You

We are looking for someone with solid practical switchboard knowledge who can confidently interpret electrical documentation and understand how a design translates into a manufactured product.

Ideally, You Will Bring

• Previous experience as a Switchboard Designer, Electrical Designer, Switchboard Draftsperson or experienced Switchboard Assembler
• Approximately 3+ years' experience within switchboards, electrical panels or associated manufacturing
• Strong ability to read and understand complex SLDs and electrical schematics
• Good working knowledge of AutoCAD
• Knowledge of relevant Australian Standards
• Understanding of electrical products, components and switchboard construction
• Experience with MCCs, PLC/control panels or custom-built switchboards
• SolidWorks experience would be advantageous
• Trade qualifications in an electrical discipline, switchboard design or relevant engineering qualifications
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively within a project environment
