Your Impact and Authority: As the

Head of Balance Sheet and Market Risk, you will be a senior leader within the Credit & Market Risk team, holding day-to-day oversight of Line 1 risk management activities in Group Treasury and Financial Markets. This role is designed for someone who can provide independent advice and recommendations relating to the Bank’s capital, funding, liquidity, and market risk exposures, ensuring risks are effectively managed according to policy limits and the Group’s Risk Appetite Statement. You will be instrumental in:

  • Providing the Board and Senior Management with relevant and timely information in relation to exposures and their management and control.
  • Acting as the capital, funding, liquidity, and market risk lead, supporting the Chief Credit & Market Risk Officer in active collaboration with key stakeholders including Group Treasury and Group Risk to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Delivering leadership and technical advice to improve the capital, liquidity, and market risk frameworks.
  • Providing independent review and challenge of Group Treasury’s management of capital, funding, liquidity, and market risks, as well as the Bank’s funds transfer pricing (FTP) framework.
  • Assisting senior Finance, Treasury and Risk leaders to adequately define, quantify and manage exposure to capital, liquidity and market risks.
  • Assessing, evaluating, and advising on the implications of new and emerging conditions and regulation on the bank’s exposure.

What You Bring to the Role – Your Gravitas and Expertise:

We are looking for a leader who demonstrates profound knowledge, strategic influence, and exceptional people capabilities.

  • Proven ability to manage diverse stakeholders and exert influence to appropriately challenge 1st Line teams.
  • Ability to lead, manage and develop people, fostering technical development of peers and subordinates through active knowledge sharing, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Industry experience as a market risk practitioner and oversight of either traded or non-traded market risk disciplines, coupled with a sound understanding of Banking Treasury & Financial Markets environments.
  • Strong understanding of ADI and AFSL obligations, OTC derivatives regulation, transaction reporting requirements, and associated market conduct frameworks.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related risk management discipline is required, with a Higher Degree preferred.
  • AFMA Accreditation or willingness to achieve one, with other industry qualifications highly regarded.
  • Advanced capabilities across a spectrum of crucial areas, including Stengthen Relationships, Drive Results, Apply Business Acumen, Communication, and Considered Decision-Making , ensuring you can build trust, achieve goals, and effectively convey complex information.

This is a permanent full-time position. We offer flexible work options that put our people first, and a hybrid model of minimum two days per week based out of our Melbourne, Adelaide, Bendigo, or Sydney corporate office.
