About the Role

As the Financial Operations Accountant, you will provide leadership and strategic oversight of the City's Rates, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Payroll functions. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient delivery of financial operations, maintaining strong internal controls, and supporting organisational decision-making through high-quality financial information and analysis.

This is a leadership position that combines operational management with continuous improvement, stakeholder engagement, compliance oversight, and the development of a high-performing team.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead and manage the City's Rates, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Payroll functions to ensure efficient, compliant and customer-focused service delivery.
  • Provide specialist advice and support to the Chief Financial Officer and internal stakeholders on financial operations, policy application, risk management and process improvement.
  • Oversee rating activities including annual rate modelling, rate notices, arrears management, statutory compliance and rating revenue reporting.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, system enhancements and process reviews to strengthen financial controls, governance and operational efficiency.
  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of finance professionals, fostering accountability, capability development and high service standards.

What We're Looking For

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline, supported by substantial experience in financial operations within a complex organisation.
  • Demonstrated expertise across rates, accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll functions, ideally within a local government environment.
  • Strong leadership capability with experience managing staff, driving performance, leading change and implementing operational improvements.
  • Advanced analytical, problem-solving and reporting skills, with the ability to provide clear recommendations and influence business outcomes.
  • CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants membership (or significant progress towards completion) will be highly regarded, along with advanced financial systems and Excel proficiency.
