As Colac Otway continues to grow, investment in resilient stormwater and open space infrastructure is critical to supporting the region’s future. Throughout the civil works phase of the Elliminyt Wetlands project, the Scope Australia team has been delivering fleet and logistics services as part of one of Colac’s most significant pieces of community infrastructure in recent years.

Delivered for the Colac Otway Shire Council, the project involved the construction and rehabilitation of a community wetlands and retarding basin in Elliminyt. The works provided flood protection for approximately 70 hectares of downstream land, unlocking future residential development in line with the Colac 2050 Growth Plan, while delivering a significant new area of open space for community to enjoy.

Delivered for the Colac Otway Shire Council, the project involved the construction and rehabilitation of a community wetlands and retarding basin in Elliminyt. Scope Australia was engaged to coordinate the removal of unusable excavated materials from site throughout the civil works programme, Following the removal of unusable material, in addition, Scope Australia was engaged to source and import quarry materials meeting the project’s specified suitability requirements.

Our ability to manage and sustain a consistent performance through an extended wet weather period – gave the delivery team confidence that material logistics would not become a constraint on programme, even as conditions on site remained challenging throughout construction. Now complete, the project stands as a strong example of infrastructure delivering on multiple fronts.

Beyond flood mitigation, the completed wetlands will deliver lasting environmental value for the region. The sediment pond, natural wetland zones and vegetated swales work together to filter stormwater before it reaches Deans Creek and Lake Colac, protecting water quality and supporting biodiversity downstream – while unlocking land for the housing growth in Colac needs in the years ahead.
