About Our Business
Bravus Mining and Resources’ Carmichael mine is an open cut thermal coal mine in the North Galilee Basin, approximately 160 kilometres northwest of the town of Clermont.
Carmichael produces more than 12 million tonnes of thermal coal for the export market each year.
More than 1400 people are engaged in permanent roles at Carmichael and workers travel to site on direct flights from Townsville, Rockhampton, Cairns, or Mackay (a flight time of approximately 55 minutes). Those team members who live in the Isaac region have the option to drive-in and drive-out with individual travel and fatigue management plans in place.[AS3.1]

About The Role

Bravus Mining and Resources’ Carmichael mine is Queensland’s largest open cut thermal coal mine by export volume and is entering its next phase of operation.
We’re looking for an experienced Open-Cut Examiner who will be primarily responsible for overseeing the mining operations to ensure the safety and health of all personnel working in and around the open cut operation of our Carmichael mine and compliance with the requirements of the CMHSA across the mine.
This site-based job share role operates on a unique 7 days on, 7 off, 7 nights on, 7 off, 28 off roster – providing an excellent work-life balance with one month on, one month off.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct statutory inspections each shift across open-cut mining areas.
- Monitor and manage operational risks to ensure safe production.
- Support the development, review and auditing of the site Safety and Health Management System (SHMS).
- Assist with coal quality, spontaneous combustion and CHPP interface matters.
- Contribute to production planning, risk assessments and job safety analyses.
- Ensure compliance with the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act and Regulations.
- Escalate and address safety issues promptly to maintain safe mining operations.
- Complete and maintain accurate operational and statutory documentation.

Essential Requirements
- Valid Drivers License
- Current Queensland Open Cut Examiner qualification.
- Experience in open-cut coal mining operations.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management experience.
- Strong knowledge of mining safety, legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to build positive working relationships and influence outcomes.
- Sound computer and systems skills.
Prerequisites
- Valid Queensland Coal Board Medical.
- Current Queensland OCE Practising Certificate.
- Evidence of compliance with the Practising Certificate Scheme (PCS).
- Current S1, S2, S3 and G2 competencies (within the last five years).
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- RIIENV301E qualification and demonstrated competency in gas monitoring.
